Exactly, which sucks. I will say that TRAC on this truck is amazing, I'm extremely impressed at how well it works, especially having just come from the same exact truck without those options. I just want the ability to disengage it. Can you turn VSC OFF with your switch in 2WD, or only 4WD?

Also one more question, which may have already been discussed but I don't recall...Does TRAC control the front diff in 4WD as well as the rear diff? Obviously it's controlling the rear diff in 2H, but is it still only the rear diff even in 4WD, or the front diff as well? Sorry if this has been answered...

In 2wd, I can turn VSC and TRACtion control off by pressing the vsc switch for 3+ seconds (while the truck is parked).

In 4wd, VSC is off automatically. As soon as you switch to 4wd, it goes off.

TRACtion control is all 4 wheels when in 4WD.

Awesome, thanks for the link and clarification! I'd like to perform this mod with the addition of an OEM VSC switch.

I had actually found this link before, but wasn't sure if it was the option I am looking for, as my primary goal is to be able to disable VSC and TRAC.

Disabling ABS worried me a little, as I don't know why you would want it disabled. I know a lot of people make comments about how ABS almost killed them, but I have never had an issue with it so I don't know what it is that causes people to hate it.

Wow my head is spinning! I will need to re-read your guy's replies again... but until I get some rest and come back... Let me say that TRAC and A-TRAC are MILES APART in what they do.

TRAC is a limited slip traction control it does work on the front and rear on 4WD trucks. However, (at least since 2009) it only works in H4, not in L4 (unless you do the 4 low trac/ yellow wire mod). L4 is open differential only... unless you have A-TRAC, and push the A-TRAC button.

A-TRAC is far greater than limited slip, it is about the same as front and rear lockers in the traction it provides, but without the negatives (loss of steering control, added expense, etc.). A-TRAC needs a hydraulic brake booster in order to hold the spinning tire as firmly as it does to the rotation of the opposite traction tire... It doesn't just slow down the spin, it halts it. The A-TRAC makes some pretty bazaar noises in the front end when it is working... a grunting-clunking sound, if-you-will. This is normal.

Now, those of us with the hydraulic brake booster (Off Road 4WDs) probably have a stronger TRAC. When I see videos of Sport Tacos using TRAC, I see a lot more spinning before it goes to work then my truck experiences...?

Yes, please do re-read the posts.

    Summary:

    • TRAC is available on pre-2009 trucks.
    • 2006-2007 4X4 OR trucks have the infamous hydraulic brake booster.
    • 2006-2007 4X4 OR have TRAC in 4L
    • 2006-2007 4X4 OR's TRAC is way more aggressive than Yoytoda's videos.

Because of the above, I went as far as calling 2006-2007 4X4 OR trucks equipped with TRAC, ATRAC. I'd love to know why I am wrong, besides the fact I dont have a button to turn ATRAC on. Instead, I have a button to turn it off. :).

I understand completely. I guess I turned the topic towards my truck, but I meant to help pre 09'ers. They might have TRAC, so the yellow wire mod likely applies.

So I have Trac and Auto LSD.

I jacked up both right side tires and tried to move the truck in both 4 Lo and 4 Hi.......Nada. It wouldn't budge.

What am I missing.....I intended to do the YWM and this was going to be a before and after test.....but it should have moved in 4 Hi ....correct ?

I can sit there running in first gear....I can hear the wheels turning....but the TRAC doesn't try to stop the jacked up / spinning wheels.

Others have described how they can hear the brakes modulating.

No sense in doing the YWM if the TRAC is not working in 4 Hi.

As much as I hate to....I'll call the dealer on Monday. I'm wondering if they will recognize this " test " as a legitimate way to verify that TRAC is working ?

I appreciate your input....I was ( am ) looking forward to having TRAC in 4 Lo ......I have a long lane that drifts bad in the winter and I'm going to need all the help I can get !

Tried the same thing with floor jacks, found out it did not work in just drive until you started to give it a little gas. Be careful not to drive off the jacks.
