Hypothetically speaking, so this is a discussion thread about the ramifications of illegal carry, would any of you carry for self-defense/protection when you think you have to go into harm's way. So we're clear we're NOT making any admissions here. Just talk about if we were in certain situations.

For instance, you get a call at 0100 and your friend has broken down in the bad part of town and you have to retreive him/her?

    Or

Pipe breaks at 0200 and you call the plumber and he takes cash only. You have to go to the ATM at that time, walk out and punch your pin.

I think that I may carry illegally to protect myself from an illegality. That illegality being robbing me, or harming me when I'm the innocent person and I deserve to be left in peace while doing my peaceable thing.

I thought I'd post this here cause this forum has been a little slow.

So to spice things up and kick it up a notch, I invite discussion, not admissions or promises of future actions on my or your part.

i carry legally. getting caught carrying a loaded gun without permission can quickly turn you from a citizen protecting himself into a criminal.

I typically travel with a hand gun. I keep it locked in an approved case with the magazine unloaded. California is very liberal and therefore not very gun friendly. I have a number of family members and friends that are in law enforcement and they have advised me that legally, I may only travel with a gun to a range or gunsmith or have a very good reason to have it in my possession, most law enforcement will look the other way when properly carried and secured. :locked:
Now when I get to the hotel or the camp site, that's a different story. :fenforcer:

I don't believe the hypothetical situations you mentioned are illegal in my state, but you better believe I would carry it regardless! Guns are like the Visa commercials.... never leave home without it.

    Here's a few good quotes:

Expecting a carjacker or rapist or drug pusher to care that his possession or use of a gun is unlawful is like expecting a terrorist to care that his car bomb is taking up two parking spaces. -- Joseph T. Chew
Arms are the only true badge of liberty. The possession of arms is the distinction of a free man from a slave. -- Andrew Fletcher
An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life. -- Robert A. Heinlein
Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? -- Patrick Henry
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government. -- Thomas Jefferson

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. -- U. S. Constitution

If you're that worried about being in a situation where you might need it, just get your permit.

I've personally carried guns in my vehicle traveling to different places to go shooting. I'm not sure what the legalities are of having a gun in your glove box versus actually carrying it ON YOU. I'd carry it in the glovebox in a heartbeat if I felt I needed it. Other than that, it stays at home.

Hell, I'd try to avoid putting myself into unsafe situations. I'd drive 20 extra miles just to get to an ATM that was 'safer' (not in a bad area of town) if I had to. But then again, We always have extra cash in our safe at home so I don't need to make late-night trips to get money.

I have a CCW- I don't know the laws for your area....but I would get a permit and carry legally as often as you can. Going to the store or the bank or anywhere else that isn't a prohib location...carry cause shit can go sour at any point.

If it came down to it tho...yeah I would have something with me if I had to be in a so called bad area.

Fortunately, in AZ, the only place to carry ilegaly is in a court, or any place posted "No weapons". I carry everywhere.

I was born and grew up in South Africa until just a few years ago and worked in the private security industry for many years. Concealed carry is a way of life over there for most citizens as crime is rampant and extremelly violent. One of the first things I did when I arrived in the US was to get my CWP. I could not imagine been placed into a position where my familie's life is threatened and I do not have a firearm at hand to defend them and myself, and in saying this, even if I was unable to obtain a CWP I would still make sure that I had a firearm nearby at all times.

really? in VA you can post all you want to but as long as i have a permit i'm good to go. however our list of unapproved places is a bit larger. it includes schools, banks, govt buildings, and the big one that they are fighting is places that serve alcohol.

Like others said, go get your permit and then the worry is over.

In Mass, I have my LTC, (license to carry),concealed, and loaded. Legally you can carry a loaded gun, in your car, concealed . (if you have the right permit) but by law needs to be concealed. How weird is that.

Also, it can be carried anytimne and anywhere as the license states the reason its needed is for "all lawful pruposes".

    Thats for handguns..

My shotguns, need to be unloaded and trigger locked.

All shotguns and rifles even in your house need to have a trigger lock, otherwise 1000K fine.

A recent news articles has cops come to this guys house (he was 78 and wife was 80), reasoning was they need to call cops on son. Cops came, looked over the house and saw the 78 year olds vast gun collection in cases. He recived a 56K fine as they did not have trigger locks but were locked as a group in display cases..... Taxachusetts.....

Concealed carry is perfectly legal in North Carolina. Many do it.

LIke some of you we can't carry in any place that has a bar and serves alcohol. Such as a Chilis. Wish we could win that argument. But to answer your question I carry when I need to.

Go get a permit...and make it that much more legal.

And seriously, at what point of a 'situation' do you whip out the gun? Is that before or after the criminal pulled out his gun?
