    I heard a squeak --belts??
    have you put anything on the belts--belt dressing?
    too loose or TIGHT?
    Some belts squeak when it rains--moisture levels high.
    Is this on a 03?
    Thats what I drive--want me to check or compare something?

    DITTO on the WATER PUMP.
    How many miles--ever been changed?
    Idler pulley turning? Have you checked for looseness?
    Had one on my 91 go bad--but that was 185000 mi.

    Hey thanks for the responses. Its been going on for about a week, when it first started I put some crc belt dressing on, went away temporarily, then came back strong and won't go away now, the belts all seem tight and the pulleys all turning the only work done since I've owned it is new tranny lines and axle. Someone else suggested the water pump, its at 97k today so. shit.

    Have not checked mine yet--But is that a tension pulley on the BOTTOM center?
    Need to remove the skid plate to get access. W/only 98K--look for the easiest FIRST.
    Are you running hot? Have a Leak?. Would expect the water pump to last to 100K.
    Checked fluids? Alternator? With the A/C on--is there a difference.

    Yea, at 97K, it's a good time to get the timing belt & water pump done anyhow. That way, you could replace all your belts at the same time and hopefully not worry about it anymore.

    That's what has me confused, not running hot, no leaks, just the noise everything else completely normal. Water pump and timing belt is like $100 so just gonna get that tomorrow. When I get home I'm going to put a long screw driver onto the water pump and ps pump and listen to it since I don't have one of those fancy stethiscopes.

    It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
    Take your belt off and see if your pulley is grooving or shiny...could be belts are too tight.

    Does sound like your truck is due for the 100k interval service(pump, belt, plugs, wires, air filter)

    Your fan clutch might be going out too though..try spinning it with engine off..is it easy to spin or resistance?

    Underfined taco: its not like a flick and it will spin but if you push it it will spin with your hand, a little bit of resistance.
    Negrotaco: LOL is anything ever easy on these? Everything turns out bigger than made out to be haha. Hopefully my brother in law who was a mechanic can help out a bit better.

    The fan clutch is an easy-to-check item, if its loose & sloppy, its shot, if its hard to turn or froze, its shot, if it turns smooth & straight with some resistance its good...;)

    Yea fan clutch is good, thanks for all the tips guys, i put a pry bar on the water pump while it was running and listened to the vibrations, 100% the water pump and the PS was making a little bit, but if i understand correctly, that should always make a bit of noise, and I'd rather have coolant than power steering.

    Update. WOW this is a pain in the ass. literally taking the engine apart, I've had to take off nearly all of the pullys, all of the belts, the fan, the power steering pump, the air conditioning compressor. Holy shit this is a PITA. I figured it'd be a challenge, but this?? It also didn't help because the NCTTORA FSM I was using was for the 4 banger and not my 6, so nothing added up. Hopefully getting it done tomorrow for good. I've been working on it slowly after work every night. On the Air Conditioning compressor, there's ONE bolt holding it that I can't get to, and I can't crack, most of my bolts are rusted to shit but two of them sheared -____-

    Hello Everyone,

    I think I'm encountering a similar problem. My 01 V6 Tacoma has about 208K miles. I had the timing belt changed out at 198k. I originally thought the loud noise was from the fan clutch, so I replaced. Started her up and it sounds like something is slipping. I'm also getting a battery light come on when she's idling. Any advice?
