So...is 6spd to auto tranny possible?

I have the 6spd and although I love manual, I had the opportunity to drive an auto taco and realized how much i was missing out on! I can definitely do the work but wondering if it has been done before and by whom!

 

Is it possible? Yes anything is possible.

Is it worth your time and effort? No

Just sell your truck and buy one just like it with an auto.

 

Usually you see people asking if they can switch their vehicle from an auto to manual. This is the first I've seen it the other way around

Why do you feel you're missing out with the manual...? I prefer having a 6spd manual myself.

Sure, the gas mileage is better in the autos (I know, crazy world) but other than that... Unless you're in traffic every day, I'd still pick the manual.

 

i see a benefit in auto if you off-road a lot...it would make crawling alot easier not having to slip the clutch and less likely to stall out

 

The problem is that I do spend a lot of time commuting in the crappy Denver traffic. My left leg is now diesel compared to my right from the clutch! Also...the 6spd is not the smoothest manual tranny out there. Fuel economy would definitely be a bonus although it would only be 2-3 more mpg but still welcomed! Because I spend so much time in a car.....I need the Taco to be the perfect vehicle for me. I almost purchased a 2nd daily driver multiple times already but regardless of the fact that I could afford one, it does not make much financial sense to do it that way. I love the Taco and am doing everything in my power to keep it! I love the sport package, usually do not tow more than 2000 lbs, light off roading so I would love to know if anyone has done this before.

 

Also...this is not like swapping 2wd to 4wd!

 

way more than you wanna get into on these trucks.back in the day it wasnt bad.....but now with all the electronics and crap,just too much imo.

 

It's too much effort and too much cash. Sell your truck and buy an auto.

 

The 6speed isn't that bad. Sure it's a little finicky at first and not the smoothest driving at first. After I got used to it, I can shift it very smoothly.

Also the clutch pedal is not very heavy. I have driven much heavier clutches in the past and actually find the tacoma clutch to be relatively light for a truck.

 

its not really a truck.....just a 4 runner with the back cut off.lol

 

There is a guy on CT that did this on an X-Runner.It requires an ECM swap. If you saw the pics, you would not even consider it.

It would be much easier to adapt a GM 700R to fit.

 

Yep sparky spent alot of money on that swap..it was unbelievable once you see what he did but then again..his truck was heavily modded..

I wonder if he ever sold his truck?

 

I do not know if he ever sold it.

He did that at the same time we were doing a T56 swap.
