Here is my set up, I decided to get the upgrade package cause I could afford it at the time. It has the rifle box (I don't hunt) I just keep sleeping bags in there for when I go camping and sleeping in the box. I just installed a 1500 watt inverter a while back for boiling water, etc. Feel free to ask any questions in your interested in the set up, it's simple but it works for a weekend of surfing or snowboarding. It's tight but once your asleep your out so it doesn't matter.

What kind of platform is that? Did you custom build it? More pics please.

    Dean ,

my shell is the Leer 100 RCC , which is the commercial version of the 100R . The roof is reinforced and the DeWalt contractor rack system can take 400 lbs

If I would have know of that option, I would of got it. I don't work construction per se, but functionality wise to be able to handle 400lbs, that's what a rack should be able to do in my opinion.

Nice truck and nice cap. How do you like the 100XL. I'm still stuck deciding between 100XR.

400 pounds is great. It's no the rack I am worried about, its the cap itself. I am looking to put a roof top tent up there and would like the topper to be able to handle the weight without worrying if it will crack.

The roof is reinforced , so if your mounting feet for your roof tent were roughly in the same spot as the rack mounts I have , the rating would still apply

The bed frame is made out of aluminum and was custom made, I inserted two pieces of pre sanded plywood and painted the wood afterwards. I also had a custom made mattress made that folds up when not in use. I wanted a bed that had removable legs to save space with storage. It's pretty solid. The measurements of the platform are Length 69'' x width 53'' and the thickness is 1.1/4''. The legs are 12'' x 4 legs and 2.5'' x 2 for the smaller legs that rest on the wheel wells for a total of six legs. To keep things simple i just use a couple bungee cords to keep it in place because I take it out to save on gas when not in use and wanted it to be a simple way of keeping the bed secure without it sliding around. Originally I almost went 69 x 54 but changed my mind at the last minute and went 69 x 53 which is tight enough, I probably could have had it a couple inches longer in length but wanted to leave a couple inches to reach under the bed while lying on it, etc. I numbered all the legs to each spot on the platform after drilling so they would fit with ease afterwards and i also used washers on the top of the platform to avoid the bolts splitting the wood. I put small little circular sticky pads on the bottom of the legs to avoid wear and tear on the plastic bed of the truck. I have the toyota rubber matt in there too to avoid gear sliding around while the truck is in motion and took a couple inches off each corner of the matt so it can be removed to clean while the bed is still in there. I have 13'' for storage under the bed and the bed with mattress takes up about 5'' and leaves about 20'' for sleeping. It's comfortable for me, I'm 180 lbs and about 5'9''. Probably a little tight for a bigger guy.

I'll post some more photos and hopefully that helps. I'd put up a build thread but have no idea how to ha ha.

I'm pretty happy with the leer 100 xl canopy the height of the glass flows nice with the height of the glass on the doors of the truck unlike some other models that have really narrow glass heights. I went with some upgrades, it has two lights inside, the rifle box in the ceiling, keyless entry, the sports thule roof rack, a plastic hangar bracket which was useless, a 1500 watt inverter charged by two extra batteries, the secondary is in the engine compartment and the third deep cycle battery is in the back corner of the box, a lockable tail gate handle, I replaced the cheap plastic handle inside the canopy with a small piece of thin climbing rope. And that's about it for now. Anyway I'll throw up some more photo's and let me know if you have any more questions. Man, I didn't mean to write that much....

I love the 100 xl, I think it looks more proportional with the truck instead of the 100 xr, all the leers are attractive looking and it all comes down to personal preference and budget I guess. I'd go with 100 xl though. How the hell do you make photos bigger on here?

I agree. How's the quality fit and finish on the 100XL. I was quoted $1879 installed. That's including black headlliner and removeable front slider.
