I have searched and searched.... To no avail.

My ride : 2010 DCSB TRD Sport 4x4 = 2 open diffs, TRAC only

    So my questions to you.

#1. When I am in 4x4, do I have LSD on my rear wheels?

#2 When I am in 4x4 hi, and I press and hold the traction control button for 3+ seconds, and the symbol for traction control off is lit up, do I have LSD on the rear wheels (I do not think so)

#3 (Assuming I do not have LSD in 4x4 hi) When the symbol for Traction Control is lit up, is there a modification I can do to get LSD on my rear wheels?

#4 In 4x4 low, the truck automatically turns on the light for no traction control (great!) but I now have 2 open diffs (not great :( ) so can I get LSD on the rear wheels in 4x4 Low somehow?

(Remember this is a Canadian model.. if this makes any difference)

Thank you for looking at my post, and giving positive feedback through personal experiences, or information you may have stumbled upon!

See the link on Traction Controls in my sig... I know you are a Sport, but TRAC/ AUTO LSD and VSC OFF work the same way.

    To briefly answer:

1: You have TRAC (limited slip) on the front and rear tires in 4WD-HIGH.
2: When you stop moving and hold the switch in for 3+ seconds you turn OFF TRAC (limited slip) and VSC... for open differentials.
    3: see 1 & 2 above
4: Only the Off Road TRDs have factory traction control in low range, called A-TRAC... which is akin to lockers more than limited slip. However, Sport owners can perform the 4-Low-Trac (yellow wire) mod to get TRAC to work in Low Range. Sport owners who have done that mod rave about it!

Canadian TW'er 'Isthatahemi' is one of the first members here to help me understand my truck's traction controls... so I think Canadian and U.S. traction is the same.

Thanks! I've always wondered about the Yellow wire mod. Thought it was just for TRD off roaders. Usually when my truck is in 4x4 hi, i cant really do what I want b/c of the engine being retarded as soon as you slide with your foot in it. And lets face it, who doesnt want a little LSD power slide :D

    Thanks for your reply!

You're welcome... The yellow wire mod/ 4LowTrac Mod is for all NON Off Road TRDs (non A-TRAC equipped) so they can enjoy traction control in low range!

There is a lot of discussion the last day on pre '09 TRAC ... not sure which thread... use search. Basically, if you have the optional TRAC then see how it is activated or de-activated in your owner's manual or posts here on TW.

The '09+ use the VSC OFF button (truck with wavey lines below) to change the settings: quick push changes TRAC to AUTO LSD in 2WD (stronger limited slip). A long push while stopped turns off TRAC (no traction control/ open diffs.). Push one more time (or restart the truck) and you will be back in standard TRAC limited slip (light limited slip).

Yes of course... I was thinking he was asking about any elecronic traction controls. The rear diff. on all 2005-2008 Sport TRDs is mech. limited slip, uses special lube additive, and cannot be shut off.

Are we still talking about Canadian models? You're in Wisconsin so I will assume you are asking about US spec 2006 TRD Sport.

Like David said, your Sport package gives you a mechanical LSD in the rear. You do not 'turn it off or on'. It's 'on' fulltime.

You will have to check your window sticker to see if you have TRAC. It looks to me like it is an Off Road option only. If you don't have TRAC, your front dif is open at all times.

Attached is the options list for your truck.

Yah, more or less... 4WD only has two tires that will get the power if the ground is uneven below them. If the ground is the same, then both tires per axle will spin... otherwise the tires with the least traction will spin and the tires on solid ground do nothing to move the truck.

Limited slip slows the free spinning tire so more power will be shared with the good traction tire. A locking differential splits the power equally between both tires... the free tire will only rotate the same as the traction tire. A-TRAC performs the same task, but by braking the free tire... call it limited slip on steroids!
