Hello, I am new and maybe this has been asked before but I cannot find it here. I too am having problems with the hvac lights. I have one that is burned out and the dealer said it will take all day to replace and is expensive. I have a "Haynes" repair manual and pretty informed on car maintenance. The manual shows that the 3 hvac controls can be removed without disassembling the entire dash/removing the console.
Has anyone here done this before? There is a "tool" that is used which looks like a plastic tool. The book says to carefully pry the corners of the control assembly and release the plastic tabs from the instrument panel.

Has anyone done this before successfully? And is the tool available? Looks like some type of a trim too. There is a caution in the book that warns about scratching surrounding plastic covers. Thanks so much as soon as possible.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
There are other posts for this...use 'search'
you can GENTLY pry the hvac controls from the dash with a putty knife...put electricians tape over it if you want to prevent scratches.
Unplug the control and there are two or three red/orange flat-blade screws on the back...these are the lights.
Go to the dealer and pay $13 (!) for a little light bulb....they come out/go in with a half twist...be gentle.
    That's it.

13.00 for a tiny bulb??? I was going to replace all three of them to keep from having to do this again. My wife's matrix 2003 we bought brand new and it is a super reliable car, not so much as a burned out light bulb on her car at all:)
thank you so much for your helpful reply and helpful information. the dealership here told me that most of the dash needs to be taken out to get at the bulbs
Both my wife and I bought our vehicles at this place. I bet they would of tried to "soak me a good one"
    Thank you again:)
