Nobody has ever said anything negative to me about my truck. My friends and family love it, but my Dad gives me shit for spending so much money on it.

The transmissions for the Colorado are built in either Japan or Mexico.

A large enough portion of the Tacoma I bought was USA made/built, so I didn't feel to bad about buying it. I did check the tag to see that it was not a made in Mexico model.

Here is a nifty link for current model vehicles: Born in the USA

    Here's my view on things...

First of all, your boss has to face the fact that the Tacoma is the best midsized truck out there, hands down, and has no close competition at all. It's the most popular midsized truck on the market, and you see so many of them on the road, especially in So-Cal. The fact that it's the best midsized truck in its class is purely based on fact, and if you are a tacoma owner, on bias as well. The Tacoma is so easy to maintain, lasts forever, and doesn't have many problems at all. The Big Three have tons of problems once hitting around 60,000 miles, when Tacomas run wayyyy past that with no problems at all. Simple as that. As far as looks go, in my opinion, the Tacoma is by far the best looking of all the midsized trucks. But everyone has their own opinions on looks...

I am in no way an only Toyota guy or anything like that. I myself think that the Silverados and F150's do have their nice spots, and are nice until 60,000+ miles. I do not hate those trucks solely based on the fact that they are not a Toyota truck. I just don't get why people have to be so hateful and so narrow minded/ignorant. Why can't people just say hey nice truck, without worrying about whether it's a Toyota or not? My buddy has a Nissan Frontier and I really like that thing and he likes my truck and we have no beef whatsoever. But there are so many ignorant people that are all talk and no brains. It seriously is a shame. Your boss sounds like a jealous one to me, since he's driving, well let's face it, a piece of junk.

Anyways, wanted to rant on that for a little. Enjoy your tacoma because the people that don't have one want one!

This is my beef against Chevy drivers. The hardcore Chevy guys think nothing is better and won't even consider anything else.

Funny story on that. A friend of mine fits this, then his father came across an old F-150 farm truck 4x4 straight 6. Didn't know the mileage since the speedo quit working for who knows how long. Anyway he hated Fords and just drove the sh*t out of this truck figuring he'd kill it off, couldn't do it. That truck took everything he threw at it and he was so hard on vehicles I wouldn't ride in the vehicle with him.

Maybe us Toyota guys come off that way? :notsure: But I'm not one to rule out any brand for the most part. I've had Fords, Nissans, Dodge's and now my first Toyota which I had wanted for a long time but never got because of the price tag. Personally I didn't have many problems with the domestics, A few recalls was about it. I'm open to most brands but if my Taco last like it's supposed to I may turn out to be just like the Chevy guys I hate.:D

And btw, I seriously considered a Frontier when I got my Taco but for the money, I like the Tacoma better and mainly the mpg's.

Tacodawgfan - I was actually considering a Frontier as well, wayyy cheaper, at least the ones I found. But I heard of Nissan's having a lot of tranny problems at around 70k+ miles, and I knew of Toyota's durability and reliability (I had a 99 4Runner with 160k miles on it) so I went that route. I am not rich enough to be able to buy a car and flip it in 2 years and keep doing that. So I wanted something that would last long and give me the most bang for my buck, and the Tacoma is awesome, and I have no regrets!

When I bought mine, the Nissan's were a little cheaper but couldn't find anything comparable. I mean for the sticker on the Yota I could have got a Fronty with leather and sunroof. The leather I could take or leave, did want a sunroof though. :( But overall just liked the Tacoma better. Liked the seats better, how it drove, the styling and as mentioned mpg's. Basically once I drove a Tacoma, it was a no brainer. I love my truck.

I live in an upscale community which is in an upscale county, so when I got my optioned out TRD Sport I expected at least a smile. All I got was stares and the repeated question; why didn't you get something nice? I told them after I get the flames painted on and put the salt spreader in the back it will look really cool. They don't ask me that question ant more.

I got crap about my 98 Corolla when I had it. With my truck my boss at one of my jobs and my friend give me crap about it "its a POS Toyota." "hows the toyoilet treating ya?" "Thats a cute little truck you have." My boss drives a v6 Dodge Dakota. I know that people stare at my 88 Toyota Pickup  and I get some good looks while driving my dad's Tacoma (on the rare time it happens) :D Never had anyone else say anything to me though.

OH! not to mention, my friend's dad has a 06 TRD Sport with over 220k miles that is used as a work truck. His dad half owns it and the company owns the other half. The company (does seamless epoxy floors) gave him a 2009 F150 as a daily truck and is having the Tacoma stay at work and be used as the work truck since its better on gas and can haul stuff really well.

The older Chevy S10s were decently made (like the Rangers) but the Colorado has to be the cheapest made truck I've ever test driven (a couple years ago, I went with someone to help them look at trucks and drove a GMC Canyon), the interior was cheap, the metal was thin. Tell your boss he drives an Isuzu, esentially.

Try being a member of the IBEW and show up to union jobsites in a taco. For the most part most guys know that tacomas are built tough and run forever.

im assuming he said that because Toyota is a foreign company.. but if he had half a brain he would know that Tacomas are made in the U.S.

I have friends that give me shit about my Taco. I look at them and tell them real trucks you have to shift. And for the few of my friends that have standards I just drop the 6 speed bomb on them. Or if they still run there mouths I just bring up how much I have worked on there "American" trucks. My father has always said the only reason we have parts stores is cause of american cars and trucks. lol

LOL, but in my situation that's not the case... It's the stranger at the gas station turning up their nose to my old daily driver. Or it's the mother pulling her kids close to her side as I pull up to the 7Eleven on my Bike. Or it's the guy at the light giving insulting looks my way because I'm in the T/A... I don't know what's these people's problem is but I don't treat others this way. If I'm walking out a door and another is trying to come in, I'll hold the door or let them go first. Rarely and I mean very rarely do I get the same courtesy in return. I usually just get a door slammed in my face...
