Dealer sold me a repainted new bumper on a new tacoma??

Anyone know toyotas sales policy on a new vechicle that was repainted? I bought a new truck and I swear I think the front bumper got repainted. I see dust rubbish... Would they tell you it was repainted if u bought it brand new? Maybe a scratch at the docks and im guessing they painted it or does factory paint have rubbish in them? I would think the
Sales person would tell you before you bought it. Yes or no?

 

I believe if repair is under certain amount of money,they dont have to tell you.accidents happen from factory to dealer.

 

Sadly no most dealer sales take the 5th.

I hope yours was just part of the PDI. like buffing off the rail dust.

 

I believe it's minor damage they will fix it at the dealer before selling it, not sure of there exact policy. I've never noticed dust nibs in factory paint, HOWEVER...
believe it or not I brand new challenger came into our shop once for repairs and he had a run in the clear along the edge of the drivers door. So moral of the story is robots aren't perfect either?

 

i remember a guy on here about a year ago going through a bunch of stuff with a similar incident. he looked it up with his states laws and i think its something around 4% of the msrp is what they can fix and not tell you nor report.
you should go back to the dealer and see what happens. if that doesn't work then go to toyota corporate and tell em you want a new professionally painted bumper. not some half ass shit

 

When you pack hundreds of cars into a lot, anything can happen. I've even had customers whack cars at our dealership. They don't have to tell you, but it's in their best interest to make it right for you. I'd go back. Our place is almost bend over backwards too good at caving in to custom requests, so something like this would be addressed immediately.

 

The one body shop i worked at fixed some huge hits for a dealer and dealer passed cars off as new. (meadowlands Toyota in nj). My brother owned a towing company that took cars from port to dealers.accidents happen and My brother had to pay for scratches and dings.im sure the dealer never said anything to any customer.i don't mind a good quality repair,it's the half ass hack repairs that aren't right.my dodge had it's front bumper spot repaired and a year later i noticed the blends fading out.

 

I did mention and showed mysales person the front bumper and pointed out the blemishes lastweek. I showed him rubbish dust, tape residue and clear residue from masking off the front bottom trim, and scratches that look like scruff marks from prepping. im a detailer and I fricken notice everything. Sales person said and I quote" not that I know of that it was repainted " from that awnser I think it was. I also ask if you would tell the buyer if it was repainted? And he said yes.

 

Go back to the dealer and raise a bigger stink. Ask to talk to his manager. and his manager. If you can, talk to the GM of that dealer and let him know you are VERY upset. I imagine at that point they'll be more likely to get you a new bumper.

You bought a new vehicle... it is not unreasonable to expect a new vehicle.

 

Take the truck to a collision shop or another dealer's used-car manager and ask them if the bumper is repainted.

Not quite sure what the dealer's remedy is going to be, however. Are you going to ask them to repaint it again? Spare bumpers come in primed only I believe.

 

Here's the bottom line. Each state has their own statue to cover contractual issues such as this. Most sales contracts will have their rules governing damage prior to delivery. In Florida for example, the last I remember a dealer does not have to disclose transport damage up to $500.00, the problem is, the dealer is who guestamates the damage! Anyway, I think you have three good options: 1. Have the damage repaired by the dealer to your satisfaction and approval on their dime, 2. Have it repaired after documenting the damage with digital photos and estimate by another reputable body shop who's reasonable and you like. Invoice the selling dealer and if no payment is recovered by you, file a small claim suite depending on the amount of damage according to the laws in your state, 3. Leave the damage in tact and request compensation from the dealer that will satisfy you. Usually if you get right to the bottom line of what will satisy you and resolve the situation, a good dealer will do the right thing especially with a brand new vehicle purchase. A final suggestion to all is, take your time before making a purchase and never buy a vehicle at night or on a rainy day. Good luck!

 

I worked at a couple local stealerships on Oahu.....The answer is NO they will NOT tell you that something was repainted.....

 

That's so BuLL!!! Even if he did know he's not going to tell you because he needs to make his sales.....

If you brought the damage to their attention at the time you took possession they would need to do something about it.....If it was after the fact.....Take it to a body shop and ask for their opinion.....If the body shop says it was repainted then go see the General Manager of the dealership and ask that something be done.....Like maybe a new bumper.....Also if they don't do anything about it tell them that you will give them a BAD SURVEY/EXPERIENCE.....Hope that helps.....

 

Absolutely go back and get it fixed by the dealer. If you don't it will always bother you. When we bought my wife's van my son scratched it with his bicycle the 2nd day we had it. We took it to the dealer to ask who they would recommend to fix it, and they recommended the body shop that they "use all the time to repair small scratches on new cars before they go on the lot". So, yes, they do make repairs without telling you, but that does not mean that you have to accept it. The least they can do is have it fixed right.

 

FWIW, the oem paint on these things seems to be prone to chips easily.

My 2010 front bumper is orange peeled to some extent over it's entire length. The wifes 2010 Corolla has a similar finish.

I am wondering if the flex agent or whatever they use to paint the plastic gives the poor finish.

I doubt I would push the full on new bumper, if they could properly prep and refinish the one you have with a quality product you may be miles ahead and also have no blend lines.

Also, I am noticing that the oem paint is very thin in many areas. Some of the thin edges where the rear fenders in the forward portion of the bed are starting to see rust on the metal edge.

You may benefit if you get good work done-
If your talking about the front bumper, typically the fender flares and the front bumper cover on our trucks have a finish which is not as nice as the "body" of the truck. There is a TSB on the fender flares, repainting them because of a "orange peel" texture or finish with them from the factory. I had mine repainted under the TSB and the finish of the plastic parts mirrors the body finish now. So if you get them to repaint the front bumper cover, have them do the fender flares as well if you have any issue with the finish. A good body shop will make the parts cleanly match regardless of being plastic and metal. Made the truck's paint finish look so much better when the fenders matched.
Some guys will tell you they will never match perfectly due to surface texture differences, metal vs plastic, etc., but thats not true. Done right they look custom vs half ass from the factory. Some have said these are painted at the port, which would explain the issue.

 

My truck had some kind of paintless dent removal on the passenger bed side right under the TRD decal - I bought the truck new so the dealer must have done it. I noticed it after about 1 month of owning the truck. not a big deal to me, hard to notice and it's a freakin' truck.
