Anyone else have issues with there 3rz having no balls? My 99 ext cab with 31" BFG a/t's has absolutely no power. I can't even pass a 85 Honda piece of shit from a red light. I get mini vans honking at me entering the freeway. I was driving up some hills the other day and was pinned! Pedal to the metal and my truck was slowly loosing speed, I couldn't accelerate at all. It's horrible, I wanted to tow a sea doo one day but my truck can barely pull it's own weight.

It has 3 inch suspension lift with a 3 inch body lift so my 31's are small and look dumb compared to the lift. It makes me wonder if the previous owner had 35+ tires on it before and a regear? Oh and my speedo is off +20mph so when I'm doing 70 it shows 90

Anyone have any experience with this?

Are you regeared? And I would loose the body lift, aerodynamics have a big affect on 4 bangers.

Ever had your catalytic converter checked?
    Cleaned the injectors?
Fuel pump not at full psi?
Just throwing some ideas out there.

So basically this is not the case for everyone's taco? I had a 3rz 2001 reg cab taco a few years back and I don't remember ever hating it's power. But that one was bone stock and single cab

I do not know if I am regeard. I hear there is a way to Check it but need to research that unless anyone here can chime in.

I also intend to remove the body lift as soon as I can. Iv been researching that for months now and I just need some blocks of wood and another jack. And some new body mount bushings.

Nope never had it checked but it passes smog. Fuel pump I haven't check either. How would one do that? As far ad the injectors I sea foamed the engine when I bought it and put it in the oil before I changed it and entered it into the vacum line as well. Maybe I should throw a can into a full tank of gas?

The only time I've lost speed with my foot to the floor, my catalytic converter was blocked internally.

Also, how's your mileage? Are you firing on all cylinders?

I run seafoam in my tank.

Based on your speedometer reading so much higher, my guess is that you have a much lower rear gear. That really doesn't make sense though as once you have a speed, you should be able to at least maintain it. With a lower gear you should be able to maintain it while even pulling a boat or something.

Sounds as though there may be a few things going on here.

Yeah I'm wondering myself if it's a combination of things. I need to deduce things though. I should figure out how to check my gear ratio. Maybe even match my tranny serial numbers with my motor and see if that's been swapped.

So what were all the symptoms of a blocked cat? How can I go about checking that?

Im at just under 140k miles and I changed all my plugs and wires when i bought the truck a few months back but I have wondered about timing. Iv heard if your timing is off by a degree it will sound like it's running fine to the untrained ear but have no power.

Would a obd 2 be able to tell me any info if there is no check engine cell going off?

I wonder if because my speedometer is off that my ecu thinks I'm doing 100mph when I'm only at 80 that it is feeding fuel and air ratios for that speed? Like not giving it enough because it thinks I'm already going fast enough??

Ok so if your having the same issue with out the speedo being off than the ecu getting a bad reading isn't the issue.

    What are your symptoms?

I would describe driving my truck as "feeling bogged down at all times" it doesn't coast well it's like I'm driving into a head wind all the time, or driving through knee deep mud.

first get rid of the body lift and that will help you some. I had a ext cab 3rz before my current 4.0 dbl cab and i've gotta tell you they have no power haha. Same thing with me coming onto highway ramps and climbing hills too, used to lose power all the time haha. There is really nothing you can do about it when its a relatively heavy and high vehicle with only 150 hp and 180 ft/lbs. It was ok stock but once i lifted and put on 32's it was a total slug. If i were you just get rid of the body lift as stated previously since its hurting you and somewhat dangerous, but keep your tires and suspension lift as atleast it'll look good cuz it will never have any balls lol

Yeah automatic sucks. And I am in the works of getting all the stuff ready to remove the body lift. I'm about to order new stock body mount bushings today

I really wanna drive another 4cyl tacoma ext cab, because i can not remember my STD cab 4cyl 01 taco feeling so shitty.

No check engine light is good It comes on for a second or two when I start the truck. I have changed plugs and wires just 4 monthes ago so should be no issues there. How would I check for a lean mixture on these trucks? It's not running hot.

Why are we talking about a V6 in the 4 banger section?

    I don't claim to be a Toyota Yoda But I thought the 3's were V6s. And never heard of TRD 4 banger. Must be a 1st gen thing. I've had 20R, 22R still have a 22RE and a 2TR-FE all 4 bangers.

You know I'm not sure exactly iv never measured from ground to bumper but my body lift is 3 for sure cuz iv measured the pucks. As far ad my suspension lift I have an AAL in the year but don't know the size plus some shitty Fabtech coilovers up from that claim on there website 3 inches of lift. They have a built in lift spacer on top it looks like that's at least 2.5. Don't know if that is actually lifting at all or if it's all in the preload.
