    Hey guys,

I have a 2012 and want weathertech digital fits. They say they still need to be designed but I can order them w/o any holes for retention clips in them. I'm cool with that but can't figure out how to remove these new style retention clips without breaking them.

    Anyone know?

Here's what I did....take a screw driver or a punch, and make holes in the mats. Just make sure to measure the distances from the edges to get the correct hole placement.

So you modified some 2011 digital fits for your 2012 new clip style mounts?

Here's what I posted on the 2012 Mega Thread:

Those who are looking to purchase Weather Tech's for your 2012 Tacoma they don't offer them yet.

The Weather Tech floor liners for the 2011 Tacoma won't work with the new retention knobs for the 2012.

Please if you're interested or if you would like to help. Request floor liners for the weather techs through their website: http://www.weathertech.com/service/a...onrequest.aspx

Hopefully if a bunch of us request the new floor liners for 2012 Tacoma they will expedite a new design to work with the factory retention system.

Note: I purchased the 2011's for my 2012 as well. I haven't taken delivery on my truck yet however I sat in a '12 recently and realized the 2011 floor liners wouldn't work. Also I noticed in the double cab the floor mats have snaps. Are there snaps on the '11s in the double cab portion? Seems Toyota is going a little overboard with the floor mat retention stuff.

I'll look forward to seeing a pic!
If you were able to make this look "clean" i'll go this route.

I did click the link on the 2012 mega thread and requested them fyi.

I wish I had ordered mine without the holes. Just makes a place for water and dirt to go through the mats. I don't use the clips at all and I sealed the holes with body sealant. The digital fits are tight enough that they do not shift around or interfere with the pedals.

That is sort of what I'm thinking, but I hate to destroy the clips on a truck with less than 100 miles on them. I'd love to figure out how to get them out w/o being destructive.

You could cut them at the base. That way they would still be there, but you could use the digital mats that way and you wouldn't risk tearing up the flooring.

That sucks regarding lead time of 8-12 weeks. That's the same timeline I was told as well. That's why I was requesting people sign up for the Tacoma on Weather Tech's website. Perhaps if they get a bunch of request for the 2012 Tacoma floor liners they would move it up their priority chain.

Get the 2011 one's with holes, then tape the bottom side of the holes and fill with RTV or silicon caulk to seal it.

the 2012 retention "posts" are at a different location and push up the mat so it doesn't sit correctly.you can seal up the holes, but you still have to create 2 more holes for the liner to sit right. I opted not to do this since the holes would effectively make the liners non functional since the area around the holes won't be elevated (shrouded with an elevated barrier) and will act as drain holes for the mat if you are using these in the rain, mud or snow.
