Sirius antenna ?

is it possible to connect the factory installed antenna on my '09 AC to a Sirius Starmate 5 ? I'm trying to avoid the exposed antenna wire. thanks.

 

Sorry the Sirius uses a special antenna. I love my Sirius, listening right now.

 

guess I didn't word that correctly. since my 09 is pre-wired with a satelte antenna installed can it be tied in a Starmate 5. Certainly someone here has the answer

 

Yes you can use the factory installed antenna on your Sirius Starmate.
Just finished doing the same on my 09 TRD OR -- works great. the only problem I had was getting the antenna connector to stay in place on the Toyota installed receptacle, (behind left side kick panel). Some putty cured the problem.

I used the antenna lead that came with the Sirius -- that is I cut the antenna lead - attached the appropriate connector - and stuffed it into the receptacle on the Taco -- because this wasn't a factory prepared coax lead - the connector I put on would not latch in place --- I used some sealant putty to hold it place. Also had to trim a slight amount of plastic from around the receptacle in order to get the connector to fully seat into the receptacle.
It is holding in place well, and the signal reception from the satellite is excellent.

 

Do you have any photos of the factory wires, where is the end located?

 

No photo's yet , the connector is located behind the left hand kick panel. I will try and post the photo later today.

 

So will this Sirius interface (see link balow) work with the system in the Tacoma? Is anyone familiar with these Systems?

What connector did you use on the antenna lead to connect into the tacoma antenna plug behind the kick panel? I would like to find a way to not have to buy the shark fin cable, and splice the connector onto the sirius scc1 antenna cable

 

Waiting to hear or see this as I am hoping to do the same. If this solves the ant issue how are you connecting the audio from the startmate? Are you planning on using the aux input jack below the A/C controls or are you planning on connecting to a aux input behind the HU?

Not wanting to spend 60-70$ on a sharkfin rippoff cable I found this on the web. I cut the wire right behind the antenna plug connector behind the kickpanel. Stripped the wire on the scc1 antenna cable and the factory xm cable as shown in the link below then soldered the connections. The wire braids were a pain to get back together and solder due to little space to work, so i put some aluminum tape around the wire braids to make sure of a good connection. After that i used electrical tape to finish it up. Sirius radio is jamming in my truck right now and i have some extra cash for beer and VODKA = )

Very impressive! I wish I had the confidece to do what you did. Instead, I'll be a few drinks short when I install my cable, I agree, for such a small part, I paid twice as much as the actual receiver from Sirius, so when the time comes to have that drink, I'll already be 2 bottles down compared to you! Great job!
