'Preciate it. I agree. Kevin does fucking fantastic work. Now that the armor is finally done it's time to turn my attention to getting the suspension on this thing finished...and some gears...

Looks better with the 3rd piaa. Ever thought about plating where the fogs are?

That was the original design. Ask me why it can't be done.

Shit like this is why I haven't boogied out of this place yet :D

That's actually misleading - it can be done, but it's super expensive. The "wing" tubing bends along a different plane from the crossbar that it connects to (the one running fender to fender). In order to plate that section, there are two options:

    1) Pick a thinnish metal, say 1/8th steel and have it shaped appropriately. Because this could not be done through normal cold-bending processes, be prepared to pay out the ass.

How much exactly? Off the top of his head Kevin quoted me around 3 grand, although that number could give or take a little. It would look better, but it wouldn't look THAT much better.

When I've been working with Kevin in the past, I've always been pretty flexible on price, because I want things done right. This time, I was flexible on my vanity.

The small aesthetic change I chose instead was to run tubing down either side of the front plate. If you go back to the OP, you'll notice Dennis's bumper is just the plate. I like how the extra tube finishes off the fog light sections.

    2) Make the entire upper section of the bumper out of it's own enclosed section of tubing. This results in tube stacked on tube where the upper section meets the lower section (just above where the recovery points are) and looks like ass. It looks like your truck has Angelina Jolie's lips. Kevin actually called me when he was considering this option and was like "I need your input. I've been staring at these fucking tubes for like two hours."

    So there you are

That ATO guy just has an eye for elegant but not over-the-top designs...s'why I keep goin' back to him :D

Thanks Jacob. You got that Runner's drivetrain back together yet? I've been trying to make it back over to TN to run with you fellas again, but just haven't found the time. I wanna see what you've done to that thing...it's come a LONG way in a short time

Yeah it's in one piece. For now:D I'm enjoying the new gears and lockers, while adding armor and new suspension like yourself. Me and Chris have been wheeling quite a bit. We're gonna hit Windrock in January if you can make it.

Hafta let you know closer to the date. Got some Dakars coming next (these stock Toyota leafs have disappointed the hell out of me getting shot so quick), then gears when the money tree re-grows a bit...

Be nice to finally get this truck paid off in a year or so. Leave a lot more cash for mods and repairs.

I was all set up to do it last April, then had a family emergency in VA and had to cancel my appointment at East Coast. Then the money turned into a weeklong trip to Yosemite CA to go big wall climbing. Since then the budget just hasn't quite been right yet.

Tax return time at the latest, although I'm hoping to get to it before then.

Probably not. Rear locker/front traction control gets this truck anywhere its clearance will let it go. I really don't think a front locker would help enough to be worth the cost. I run with Larry and Dennis most of the time, both of them front/rear locked, and they haven't gotten anywhere I haven't yet. I can think of two occasions they've had a little easier time of it, but I still got up there.

What I *am* looking at after gears is Crawlbox/Lefty. I'd like a flat belly and some compound Lo. If that tax return doesn't get spent on gears, it'll probably get spent on that.
