Buying rims is confusing for newbs

2012 Access Cab, I4 4x4. Came with 16 inch rims, 245's

Looking for some moto metal rims in 17 inch, and looking to run 265 nitto's.

I'm failing at finding out what specs I need on my rim. I would like a -12 offset to widen the stance a bit.

For now I'm going with a Truxxx 3inch cheapo lift, as I don't climb rocks or do any EXTREME off road riding.

I see the 6 lug options, but there is more than one. Backspacing? Can I even run a -12 offset?

 

I run a set of 17x9 wheels with a -12 offset and 265/70-17 Bridgestone Revo tires. I also have a lift that allows for it. I think that if I didn't have the lift I would rub horribly.

 

Will a Moto Metal MO909 17x9, 6x135, OS -12mm, BS: 4.53" rim fit properly?

 

It should as long as you have at least 2.5" of lift, and the 265/70-17's you want are rated to fit a 9" rim. You also need to ensure the hub bore is big enough to fit the Tacoma. I would search the tires and wheels section as there has got to be someone with this combo.

 

I have moto metals 17x9 on mine, the stance looks great and they dont interfere with uca or lca's. I put them on 285x70x17 and had to do a fender well chop to stop the rubbing. It wasnt hard to trim some of it away, just use a dremmel and cut what you need.

 

I believe it is 6X139.7 not 6x135 if I am correct. At least that is what I got with my ATX Ledge 17x8

 

yes/no. depends on wheel offset. my 265's rub in flezing type circumstances, but not crusing on the street.

 

With age come wisdom .... go to the pros ... a tire and wheel shop that has a good name and you trust ... it is their business and would be the ones to point you in the right direction.

I bought after market wheels from a shop in Va Beach. When I went back a week later to say I thought of buying larger tires he said, "Jimmy, I am in the business to make money, and will sell them to you if you would like. If it were me I would leave it alone."

With 17x9 wheels with a -12 offset he will almost def need a lift. I have very near 3" and I still rub my mud flaps on full lock in reverse with 265/70-17 Bridgestone REVO's.

 

yes, the two of them go hand in hand. i have built many a wheel for my race cars, so i have a lot of experience with various wheel widths/offsets.
if you just say backspace, then if he gets a 9" wheel with the same backspace, he will have issues on the outside edge.

getting back to the original posters issue, bear in mind that your tpms for the steel wheels will NOT fit aftermarket aluminum wheels. you will have to get new tpms sensors, make a tpms vessel, or deal with the tpms light. i just went through this with my own taco.
