Wow!...didn't know there were so many going from a Lex IS to a Tacoma! I thought I was the only one. I also gave up a black IS250 for a MGM Tacoma. I think it depends what color paint you get. My black IS had chips all over the front....looked like crap after the first year...and only got worse. Also had a black 2001 4Runner that looked like crap after a few months as well. I went as far as taking it to a body shop for them to look at it because I thought something was wrong with the paint! So far so good with the Taco...but only got 1700 miles so far.

Toyota's have a soft paint and clear coat. GM has a hard paint and a hard clear coat. Both pick up chips when driving. Just a normal thing when the car is a daily driver. Sealants and wax will help a little but you will still get chips when a rock hits the paint at 55MPH.

3M Clear bras help but over time they become sand blasted and look a little hazy so I am not a fan of them.

My mudflaps came off a few months after buying the taco. Due to off-roading especially on gravel roads, I have lots of very small chips in my front doors and rocker panels. I have bought the touch up pen and started the painstaking process of repairing the damage. I also trimmed 4" from the front mudflaps and put them back on. The paint chipping on my rock sliders was quite severe and I am very tired of painting them. I see that a 6" x 60" roll of that 3m clear bra paint protector can be had for about $30 USD. I'm probably going to pick a roll up and retrofit my taco.
