    Seeing how we were on the subject of hoods. Miller is doing 25 bucks back on Elite hoods and check out CyberWeld i think I'm getting the Digital Camo :D

    you kids and your auto dimming helmets. sonny, back in the day we used to have to hold the tip right close to the metal, and then flip our hoods down to weld! . . . and then we realized we couldn't see anything because we had accidentally stuck the rod to the metal and the welder was just sitting there humming and we had to pull really hard and snatch it off. and. . well im just rambling now. :cool:

    ive never even tried TIG. i'd like to someday though, looks fun. . . . and now makes me want to watch American Chopper lol. . . i saw your posts from the other day on it though.

    lol well its just a pain because if you accidentally touch the tungsten to the work piece while starting the arc (or any time during welding) you have to re-grind it.

    and it is fun! I can't wait to try it some more next weekend, maybe I can actually get a decent bead between 2 pieces of pipe this time :laugh:

    how much would a almost new millermatic 210 go for usually? it has about 1 hour on it according to the the seller no bottles and the gun for welding steel


    (sorry, im just trying to get started with welding)

    i have 4 welding shields for various jobs. a 40 dollar jackson big window, a jackson that attaches to my hardhat, one i made out of cardboard duct tape and respirator straps that i use with a kevlar and nomex hood and just a welding lens .

    yeah, the hardest part for me is getting the arc started when you can't see how far the tip is from the metal. I guess I just need more practice.
