Going to buy a 2012 Double Cab soon and was wondering about the difference in the suspension on the SR5 and TRD Sport packages. The truck will strictly be used on road. Which one offers the better ride?

You should test drive both and see which one YOU like better and there is also a price difference between the SR5 and the Sport

Starting over with a new GMC AT4 Satin Steel Metallic Softopper, Bilstein 5100's @ 1.75 in the front, TSB Rear, 17x8.5 Lvl 8 Guardians, 265/70-17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Scooped, Anytime fog mod, Osram Nightbreakers, LED Interior lights, Debadged, Painted valance, Removed rear head rests, De-flapped, Hidden Hitch installed, Weather Techs, Flyzeye'd A/W/A, Cover Kings.
SR5 is a interior upgrade package, with a few minor exterior accessories. The TRD has the SR5 upgrades, plus the TRD upgrades ie: suspension components, color matched bumpers, grill, mirrors and handles. Oh and the scoop. The TRD's also go a bit above the SR5 in some of the basic SR5 stuff like seats and stereo etc.

    So:
    Base
    SR5 - Upgraded interior
    TRD Sport - SR5 + Sport options
TRD OR - SR5 + Off road options

Yeah, I know that I'll probably need to drive both to see the true difference, but just wanted to know what the theoretical difference in the two suspensions is. Which one should be stiffer? And the price between the two packages makes a big difference too. My wife has a 2002 Rav4 and the suspension is pretty stiff and the ride is horrible. Just want to make sure that it's better than that...

The shocks are a tad stiffer on which one? The standard or the sport?

I thought they started putting Bilstein HD's on the SR5s?

If both shocks are Bilsteins, they're the same shocks. SR5's and TRD sports have the same coils and leaf packs but the TRD sport has a thicker sway bar so it doesn't dive as much in corners and lower profile tires so there's less sidewall flex in hard corning 'in theory'. I say in theory because it's still a pick up and won't corner like a sports car regardless of what you do to it.

They used to, my 2007 came with crap Tokiko shocks. I'm pretty sure they switched all the 4x4's and Prerunners to Bilsteins after a certain year because the newer model TSB's don't include replacing the shocks.

Oh man, i totally f*cked up. I was set on a trd tacoma, I test drove a Tacoma(dlb cab,long,bed,v6,2x4, sr5 and phat jbl system :) and I loved it. I have had it for a month or so and I just realized its not TRD. But it is lifted just like the trds and has beefy coils and leafs. So did I totally f*ck up or can I simply just buy a few upgrades? Also I realize it doesn't really matter unless you do tons of off road.

Sr5 and sports have the SAME coils....offroads are progressive.

Ur missing what......rear inverter (almost never used myself)
Rear locker....I suppose 2 full wheel drive is better than 1 drive wheel.

    Maybe lsd (sport).
    Skewp (sport)

    Diff seats....
maybe diff rims (we need pics)
    maybe diff tires
maybe diff suspension, but I thought I seen u post u wanted LT anyhow
....maybe missing a few things here, others will show up.

I suggest starting ur own thread with pics tho.

I don't know what u mean about beefy coils/leafs......what "lift" does it have (you said it was liftes)? Pics?
Lifted taller than a stock prerunner, or a base model 5 lug?

    I assume its a 6 lug prerunner

I own a 2009 4X4 SR5. What parts do I need to make it ride like the 2009 TRD sport? It's just the shocks or springs as well?
