Best tire for under $175 each???

What size?

 

I used to run the ltx at2, fantastic tire. I wouldn't call it 'trail worthy' but 60,000 miles a set and all around road comfort, hard to beat. Kinda spendy.

The tire shop I was at last week had loads of em...dunno about a back order?

Yeah ? Well I guess it was because my dealerships supplier couldn't get them. They wanted $232 per tire too if they could get them. 245/75/16.

The Firestone Destinations were my second choice but I'm very happy with them so far. Now we just need snow.

Newb here, curious to know what is the big difference between "P" rated tire to a "LT" tire. Like in P265/65/R17 and LT265/65. I keep noticing that there is a big price difference between the two going from "P" to "LT".

Edit: I've done a google search and wikipedia of what's the difference and it don't really explain it to where it justify's the price jack.

 

The truck comes with P rated tires... so for 'normal' use that should work fine... My second set are P rated Hankooks.

LT are stronger, stiffer sidewall, heavy duty if you will... have heavy camper, frequent heavy loads, want longer tire life... would be reasons for buying LT.

 

What David K said. I put new P tires on the tacoma. 245/75/16 came with P tires. The expense is not worth it unless you are loading it down and then you'll probably need aal at least or more.

 

As for what kind and size I have: Hankook Dynapro ATm 265/75-16 ($140 ea. from a local tire shop)

 

To add to this...lt tires 'usually' don't carry as good of a warranty as a p rated tire as the manufacture expects them to see more 'abuse'

 

However LT tires generally come with a slightly thicker tread depth because they expect them to see heavier use, but they know people still want at least 50K miles out of them.

 

Agreed, not saying they don't last as long...I say they last longer. Some folk put warranty higher on the list than I when it comes to purchase.

I run 'd' range tires fwiw, would run 'c' but they don't make em in that flavor for my tire/size of choice

Any 4x4 or truck I've ever had, first thing on it, if not so equipped, is a set of LT tires

 

I had a set of Michelin LTX M/S. Great tires, but damn near went bald at 20-30K miles. But they were P rated. Haven't seen that problem on the ambulances running E load LTX M/S.

 

I only have about 500 hundred miles on my rf10's but so far they're great. Handled very well in the rain yesterday and the price was right!

 

Ok I took the wife down to the tire store today and she looked over all of the tires they had and picked out a set of tires called Mastercraft Courser A/T2. Anyone got any feedback on Mastercraft tires?
I know they are made by Cooper and that is about all I know.

 

Ok after much debate I finally purchased a set of tires.
I went with the Goodyear Wrangler Authority tires from walmart. They just looked to sweet to pass up.
I felt bad enough about buying tires at Wal-Mart (at least the tires were made in the USA) but there was no way in hell I was going to let the d_a_'s at Wal-Mart install them.
I am going to have my local Toyota dealer (rape me) install them since they have to do a front end alignment on the vehicle anyway. It will cost a little more but at least I know it stands a good chance of being done correctly. The grease monkeys at Wal-Mart did not impress me in the least!
