Possible wheel balance issue?

I've tried searching on the threads for someone who has had a similar problem, but haven't had any luck.

I've been getting a noise (don't really feel it as a vibration) whenever I'm up over 20+mph and I think it's coming from the wheels. The sound is similar to something being stuck in the tire and continually running over it (i.e. the frequency increases with the speed of the truck). I put on 5100s @1.75 and 265/75/16 tires in February and had my first tire rotation at the end of July. It wasn't too long after the rotation that I started to notice the noise. Could it be something as simple as getting the wheels rebalanced? I just got a set of AALs a few days ago, but I don't want to put them in until I figure out what this noise is.

Sounds to me like you may have some uneven tire wear that made it noticeable with the rotation. Being it wasn't too long before your first rotation, I think it'll go away. Good luck!

 

you got an alignment sense those shocks?

Have tires rebalanced.

then start to confirm its not wheel bearings/ball joints/ tie rod ends etc etc.

 

Yeah, I had the alignment done just a few days after the shocks and tires were installed.

 

Would this be from too much/little air in the tires? Could a pressure problem also be the possible cause of the noise if the tire pressure was too high?

 

What tire pressure are you running? Can you get a sense of where it's coming from like front or rear? Also look each tire over very carefully while someone moves the truck unless you can put it on a lift and rotate the wheels. Look for any kind of object in the tread or pieces of tread missing or anything the tire may be contacting as it rotates. Look over the drive shaft too.

 

Don't forget to look over the front shafts since your a 4x4.

 

Too high or too low of tire pressure can cause uneven wear. I can tell you with old BF Goodrich A/T's I used to get a noise everytime I rotated the tires for about 1k miles.
