Load capicity

A courier where i work has a 2005 tacoma 2wd regular cab 4cyl and says his load capacity is 2000 pounds total. I didnt think this is right since my double cab lb 6cyl 4wd has a 1100 pund capacity. What is the load capacity for the reg cab 2wd 4cyl?

 

Just whip 'em out, measure and be done with it...

 

2k is 1 ton. He may lift it but it aint legal. Unless he has upgrades.

 

Your courier friend is an idiot (or I can't read). The highest total cargo capacity I see is 1300#. He'd be in that range.
Your truck weighs more stock-4x4,V6, More cab, etc...so your capacity is less by a couple 100#'s

 

Reminds me of renting the Lowes truck the other day. It says no more than 1500 lbs load. The employee with the fork lift insisted that the 2700 lb pallet would be o.k. even after I mentioned the limit, so I said "great" Low rider all the way home (1 mile)

I thought 2000 pounds didnt sound right. He also said he put 2400 pounds once and the ass was dragging but did it.

 

There's also something called a safety margin. Of course it will do it, but not safely.

 

Just because it worked doesn't mean it was a good idea...

 

The rental trucks from Home Depot and Lowes are 2500 or 3500 HD trucks...they can handle WAY more than 1500 lbs. I wouldn't hesitate to put 1500 lbs. in my 5 lug (and I have in the past).

I think Toyota says the payload is 1350 for my truck.

 

My DC/SB/4x4/auto is rated to carry 1360 lbs (remember that includes driver, passengers, tools and tank of fuel). With the spring TSB in it handled 3/4 ton of gravel very well this summer; never bottoming and well controlled. BUT, I'm aware the truck's not rated for it.

So...no doubt your friend's handled his load. But in addition to not being safe because suspension's overloaded (especially if his doesn't have the TSB springs/shocks) it wears axle bearings super fast and could break springs. Just don't do such craziness very often if we value our trucks.

Oh yes... and I hope he ran tire pressure to max pressure on the sidewalls? The max pressure gives the maximum load handling capability. Probably the most dangerous thing is tires under inflated for the load.

 

Back in '73 I had a 1/2 ton GMC that the axle housing had been bent and axle broken due to an overload and hitting a pot hole. To get the axle out the housing ends were chained to the floor and the center jacked up.
