11 taco 4x4 crew cab off road 34500 otd yay or nay?

bought my 2011 sport AC sport 6 speed last december, $28,500 off the lot with 100k mile warranty

 

Mine was supposed to be 1k below invoice. Wound up 28k otd. But that was with 1k for the college grad program thanks to my wife. Point is they can claim the invoice is what ever they want it to be imo. So you need to know going in. I didn't do enough research on that when I bought, but did know what I thought was a fair price. But I had a trade also that complicated things. I know I could have got a good bit more for my trade but didn't want to go through the hassles plus the tax difference helped also.

 

I'm trying to trade in my 2009 DC Prerunner right now and the lowest price I've gotten from dealers in the area is $31,089 for a 2011 DC TDR OR SR5 4x4. ($1 over cost they say).

 

There have been numerous common problems with the six speed. They may or may not have the new ones permanently fixed. Do some searching and reading on here and make your own decision.

When I bought mine, everyone was complaining about the automatic's shift points. Toyota fixed that with a reprogramming. The six speed's problems had fallen to the bottom of the list on the forum, so I never read those. But I have now. You should read them before you buy.

 

Uhhhh, derp, because I'm curious if it's the people that have 6-speeds saying they suck, or if it's the automatic people just saying that, never having driven the manual trans.

 

No derp, you asked if they knew how to drive one; I was responding to that.

It sounds like a deccent deal. I paid $28,500 for a 6 spd access cab and sticker was $30, 200 the six speed ihas been great especially w/ the clutch start cancell button.

These trucks don't have the discounts that the competitors do

so i recently got an email from the same dealer but it was someone else. she stated she would sell me the car at dealer price. Did not really look into it as im waiting to buy in november now. i am assuming dealer price would be around 30-31 plus tax and fees would be like 33500 otd. How are you guys getting these trucks for 29000 otd? It just blows my mind....

 

Did you do the Overstock.com thing I talked about? If there are dealers in your area that accept then, and odds are there is at least one, you can walk in and get the truck for $28,800.

i have the exact same truck, access cab, v6, 6spd manual, TRD off-road. i got 5,000 for my 03 ranger with 160,000 miles, then 1,000 college cash, and told the steelier that i would give him a check for 10,000 right now, and it was like saying jump and him asking how high. i walked out with 28,200 OTD with maryland taxes and tags. just went to get my tags, and i was told that the steelier ship charged me 289.50$ over on my taxes. so i am 27,900 OTD.

Different peoples otd price varies a lot because taxes change so much depending on where you are. Where I register my truck taxes are 8.035% on 30k that's a damn lot of money! Tags are expensive in colorado too but you can't wrap that into the car deal here it has to be paid at the dmv my first set of plates for the taco is like 730.00 but I got my tx pro for 31075+tax no dealer fees msrp was 34875.00 I did look. Those numbers are a guess bit within a few bucks I don't have the papers in front of me. I know I was right about what edmunds and consumer reports say invoice is. Yes the dealer makes a little bit of money selling it to you at invoice but understand that's about as good as you can expect to do. If they aren't making something then there is no reason to be open. At least cars aren't like other consumer products, I worked in the electronocs inDustry for a long time average mark up on product like that is 40%.

 

My personal experience with mine. My 2010 TRD Sport has 29K miles, and I had one 6 speed replaced at ~14K miles. This one is better, but it still fails to let me go into first from a dead stop about 1 in 50 shifts (requiring a double clutch, or a shift into second then first). That doesn't even get me started on the squeaky clutch pedal with over an inch of side to side play, the sticking release with almost every shift resulting in a clunk, or the 2.5K to 3K engine speeds when cruising on the freeway.

I do have to admit, it has been getting better. I've noticed having the AC on makes the shifts rougher, so I drive without it as much as possible. I am also going to try changing all of the driveline fluids to Royal Purple here at 30K, I expect that will reduce or eliminate the clunk on engagement. I am also going to bleed the clutch myself; I am not 100% confident that it was done correctly when the transmission was last replaced.

For those that say it's supposed to be like that, I disagree. My last truck (1996 GMC Yukon with a 5 speed) nor my wife's (BMW 128i with a 6 speed) ever felt bad when shifting. We've had several manual transmission vehicles over the years, and this one is by far the worst.

You're right, I don't know how to drive a manual transmission. Obviously, one needs more than 14 years and 300K+ miles over the course of several manual transmission vehicles in order to have an opinion on the experience he/she has had with their own truck.
