Grandtreks in snow?

I know this has probably been asked a million times but I can't find anything searching. I live in the mountains and am wondering how they do in snow (Dunflop Grandtrek AT 20). I live close to work but drive over mtn passes once or twice a month and to Denver (2hrs) every once in a while. I'm on the fence spending $700 for snows. I got my dream truck because someone else rear-ended me on a mtn pass and don't want my truck skidding out of control, not that I'm an unsafe driver and am experienced in snow driving.

 

The Grantreks suck in the snow . The tread depth is shallow and plugs easily and when that occurs you might as well be on slicks .

This was my experience in the wet snow we get on the coast but they were terrible and after the first winter I got rid of them .

$700 is a small price to pay as opposed to spinning into a 360 careening off the road. You could get a decent AT tire. They even make them snowflake rated ie goodyear silent armor sell the dunlops on craiglist.

Its a shame Toyota puts these tires on our trucks in the snow regions. I mean nice weather I am sure the Dunlops are fine, easy roll, good quiet highway tire but no way on consistant snowy roads.
