Ok so here's my delima I have a 2001 Taco SR5 V6 4x4 with 190k miles and I can't decide what to do. I want to put a good looking steel front and rear bumper, 6" lift, and some bigger tires on but I just can't decide if this truck has too many miles on it to be sinking that much money into it. So here's my poll and post your opinions please.

Well that depends on if you'd get another 1st gen tacoma if/when this one finally dies. If you would, you could always transfer mods to the new 1! if not, it might not be the best idea fiscally...

How many miles have YOU put on it? Hows its life been? I bought mine at 172k and have already added 8k in the last three months. the last 30k miles before me have been SUPER rough, and take a look at my build thread and you can see exactly what i mean. Really though if you treat the motor right it COULD last another 100k

The six inch lift im assuming will long travel the front? otherwise those cv's will be at WAY to much of an angle.

As for a bumper, its your call, you figure they are good for all first gens.

And how mechanically inclined are you? While i dont romp my truck, or take it hard, i still drive it, and if and when the motor goes, ill drop a new one in and keep going.

Well I like my First Gen but there's not gonna be much of a chance of finding one 4 door (since I'll be working on a family soon) with less than 100k miles on it... So I'm thinking I'm going to just hold out and sell my truck to find a 4 door something.

I'm no where near mechanically inclined lol, I bought the truck I would guess and say 2 years ago with 175k miles and now I just hit 190k miles so I don't drive it much although my new job is a 30min drive now so those miles will be going up. I never had an issue with the truck beside replacing the O2 sensors.

yeah sensors can tend to add up depending on your environment.

If your thinking 4door first gen then the bumper lift and wheels could be switched over.

Ya I've looked around for a 4door but I only found 1 within 100 miles of me and I didn't like the color of it, so it's not looking like it's gonna be easy to find

dude, I know its kinda cliche to say...but its a toyota! It wont die.

Add your lift (btw, unless you go LT, go with a 3'' because thats the most you can do with out doing a drop bracket), your bumper and armor, and go at it.

If it dies (it wont) rebuild! Everything on your truck is fixable and replaceable. Make it your trail buggy, then get a new DD.

My 97 has 175k and runs like its brand new....going to drive it till it falls apart. (but it wont :D)
