Gotta say a come-along is a great tool. Especially if you need to winch from two places.

On a recent recovery, we used two winches to get the vehicle back into a track we could lower it off the hill with. We were so lucky to have two winches. But a come-along would have worked to pull the vehicle back into the track--harder but it would have worked.

i think i want to try that trail now...

but... says a lot for sliders and hilift. if the h3 had someplace to hilift off or i think it wouldnt be that bad. jack a little at a time and stack lots of rocks...

Wouldnt have helped... The front end is high centered and way to high even for a 60" hi-lift. Best bet would be the ARB x-jack right around the area where it's caught up on then either putting rocks under the tires or pushing it over to one side (would be a scary thing methinks). Even then the guy couldnt reverse because of the huge rock right behind the drivers' rear tire and just under his bumper.

The other option would be to get the rear end up, rocks/boards under the tires to lift it up, and winch that bad boy back up the hill - would probably need a FS w/ 12k+ winch with the winching truck tied to a second for the extra anchoring weight.

you can lift the front of a vehicle with the front of the slider... if there were 2 hi lifts with jack stands you could lift both sides while making sure the stands were keeping the truck from dropping back onto the rocks... small movments add up.

I used to work as an engineer for a rigging company, nothing is too big to move.

i wish i went but nobody got back to me... i would have had my chainsaw, come along, hilift, floor jack, tools, chains, snatch block, tow straps, etc.

I agree about the lifting from the slider... Problem is that he was REALLY high centered and there were dropoffs on either side that made it too high for a hi-lift to accomodate - at least on the passenger side (just an observation, didn't actually measure it).

You can kinda see what Im talking about in these pics. Looks like the sliders would be higher then waist high and theres a steep angle under the passenger tire (even with the rocks neither tire had much weight on it). I just dont think that sliders would've allowed us to jack him high enough from his current position to help due to terrain issues - whereas the x-jack could go directly under the vehicle and wouldn't have to lift very high to be able to do a recovery.

Sounds good, but I can only wonder. I had my hilift with us so that made two, but I just couldn't see the hilifts being stable on any of the terrain near the front of the vehicle... The rocks just seemed so unstable to stack up too. Oh and the drop it would take to either side would be very deep. Crazy situation I must say.

gotcha! obviously i wasnt there... what the fuck was he thinking when he tried to go over that rock?

i had a ton of stuff ready to go. i had about 20-30 pieces of 2x8s and my floor jack. that would have maybe helped. looks like you could floor jack under the tires if you moved some of the rocks.

such a bad way to be stuck....

The h3 was too high up. To get it lifted would've took all day just moving rocks and at the end there was nobody to pull him back. It was some crazy shit. I'm still scratching my head how he landed there.

OP was a 2006 AC Sport w/ OME 3" and 285's (I think). H3 looked stock. No armor outside of OEM for either.

TW responders were TRD OR's <3" and <285's - no plate bumpers, winches, sliders, etc. Did have a bunch of hand recovery tools. One of the heepers broke his 30+ year old come-along.

    we did bring water though....
