2012 radio display gripe..is this normal?

Is my radio defective or is this they way it was designed?

I have a 2012 double cab SR5 with the stock radio system, which includes bluetooth for phone and music, satellite radio, and a cd player.

My gripe is the display; it appears limited in the number of characters it can show and thus cuts the name of songs and artists off. Here are a few examples:









There IS blank space on the display to be used, but for some reason the radio just doesn't use it. This makes me think that it's possibly just my radio that's defective. Is this normal? Is there any way to change it?

I'm not willing to get an aftermarket unit, since this one does everything I need. It's a small gripe; I'm very happy with the truck overall.

Hmmm... is this the new Entune?

With the 05-11 radios this is a very well documented problem/gripe. But I haven't heard anything from the '12s about it until now.

 

No, thats the new non-entune radio. Mine does the same thing, although it scrolls the name of the track.

But yeah, 16 char limit.

I wish there was a way to replace the stock '11 radio with an aftermarket radio that would show the entire song name, and also allow me to keep the steering wheel control, factory bluetooth and XM.

 

Well, I can't make mine scroll. I looked through the manual and tried just about everything I could.

That's a little stupid, only showing 16 characters when there's almost half the display un-used. Bummer, i guess.

 

I'll look this afternoon. I'm pretty sure it scrolls. I didn't do anything, it just did it. I might be misremembering, it's been a long morning already.

 

Can you created favorites sets that have a mix of radio stations. Meaning can you have a set of favorites that have XM stations, AM and FM stations? Friend of mine has a new GM vehicle and you can create a favorites set that mix matches XM, AM and FM stations. Pretty slick I thought, you don't have to change sources to get to your other favorite stations.

 

Yep. There are 36 such presets available, too.

 

There is a way. They have special adapters and such that allow you to keep everything. I have a double din touch screen that still utilizes the steering wheel controls and XM. Just plan on spending another 80-100 bucks for the adapters. When you buy an aftermarket stereo just make sure it's for XM. Some of them only work for Sirius.

Just so I'm clear you can have an XM station preset, an AM station preset and a FM station preset in the same favorites set (for example set 4)?

 

I Think it's normal...seen other vehicles do the same n my 08 with 2010 radio does it becuz it has less space...if you have a "text" button press n hold it n see if the rest of the letters pop up...

Ok, after some googling - XM is limited to 32 characters for title and artist. Some channels can do 32 for channel and 32 for artist, and some radios handle that differently, further complicating matters.

Really? Weird...both my 08 n this radio does it when I plug in my iPod or when I have a cd in there

Does yours scroll while using the ipod? Mine just gets truncated to the end of the screen and doesn't scroll.
