A guy posted in the bumper thread and he is having problems with the fitment. It does not have adjustments for spacing the bumper below the lights and grille. This space is crucial for when the frame flexs it does not slam into the grille and fenders. He is having these problems with his bumper.

I would try and support our Vendor's here on TW. They make great stuff and can customize you pretty much what ever you can think of

wow...i would assume the rear bumper is not going to have as many issues as the front bumper, but then again i could be wrong. I do love the look though. Is your front bumper pretty heavy duty??

Body Armour Rear Bumper & Tire Carrier NOT RECOMMENDED They will not repair or replace defective units.
    Hello Tacoma People,

I just wanted to blog about Body Armor's Rear Bumper & Tire Carriers quality of products.

The are some major issues regarding the Body Armour Rear Bumper and Tire
    Carrier.

    1. The rear bumper bolt holes don't align well,.
    2. The tire carrier hitch mount "receiver tubing" is way larger than the
male tubing, so bad we have to take tire off completely because it
    rattles the entire vehicle.
    3. There is only 1 bolt holding the receiver/male and tire to carrier.
The bolt hold is drilled so close to a plate, you cannot get a socket on
it. ONE BOLT DOES NOT SECURE the weight of the rim and tire. Nor does
it keep it from rattling. When tightening the bolt into the welded on nut, the weld on the nut broke will not hold the receiver.
    4. I bought 'bump stops' per Body Armor, and installed them, but the tire carrier with only the weight of one small tire bent the tire carrier.
    5. The rear tire carrier assembly and hinge bent almost 2 inches.

I spoke to Mr. Jeff Neubauer, Division Mgr at Body Armor and he stated:

"I would not recommend taking the bumper and swing arm back to 4WP as we
do not consider them to be defective."

    Jeff Neubauer
    Division Manager
    Body armor 4x4
    tolar mfg. co, inc.

That was back in March 2011, and Body Armor would not make one single effort to correct the problem !

In mid-Nov. 2011, in good faith, 4WheelParts, did stand by the customer and would issue a store credit. Thank you 4WheelParts for your time and effort. (no I don't work there).

Thanks for nothing Body Armor. Cost cutting to use Chinese rather than USA?

I have this bumper and had no problem with it at all. It bolted on perfectly . I did spend some time adjusting it so that I got it even all the way round. I dont know why people are saying that they have had problems with this bumper. The only thing I wish was different is that it has no plate lights or any place to mount them. I am going to order a led plate holder and install it. So, I would definitely buy this bumper again. You can't bet the price point on this item. I paid 311.00 with shipping.

Factory Leather 3" Tough Country Lift Body Armor front, rear bumpers, tire carrier, & side steps.
Purchased everything that Body Armor offered for my 2006 4 door Tacoma. The front bumper was a nightmare. The instructions were ridiculous and lacked pics of the actual installation process. They say to install the main mount and bumper together which turned out to be impossible. You must however remove your grill which is not a big deal otherwise you will NEVER get this on your truck with out destroying the front of it.

The main mount / winch plate lined up with the 6 frame bolts / studs but the two tabs on the bottom were off by over 1/2 inch and were about 7/8" too low. Had to widen out the holes and install a stack of flat washers between the tabs and the bottom of the frame rails. I also went and bought stainless bolts and washers as I could not use the factory hardware as the instructions say that you can on these two bottom locations. There is absolutely no up, down, or side to side adjustment to the main mount / winch plate at all.

The 8 holes in the bumper, where the D rings go and mount the bumper to the main winch / mounting frame, needed to be enlarged / widened so that I could get the bumper lined up evenly with the truck side to side and up and down. I had to widen the holes out over 1/2" in all directions to get the bumper to properly line up with the fenders. Again, no up, down, or side to side adjustment.

Squeezing my winch under the bumper was also not fun. I had to remotely re-locate the power box because there is just simply not enough room between the winch plate and bumper. I also went ahead and remotely located the plug for my remote while I was at it and put it off to the side of the winch clutch release cut out on the the top of the bumper.

Oh yea, if your state requires a front license plate you CAN NOT ACCESS THE BACK OF THE BUMPER AND GET TO THE HOLES that are pre drilled in the bumper for a plate after you get the bumper, winch, and mounting plate on the truck. I had to get plastic drywall lags from Lowes and uses washers and screws to attach my plate vs using stainless nuts and bolts as I wanted to. I was NOT going to take the whole bumper apart again to mount my plate.

I used an engine hoist and straps to lift and hold the bumper while I installed it. I avoided scratching up my my truck while installing everything. This was a 10 HOUR ORDEAL installing this bumper with a winch but I did finally got it on the truck and lined up. I dad to primer and paint all of the holes that needed to be drilled out. All in all it sucked putting this on and its a good thing that I had a full shop of tools and an engine hoist.

The rear bumper wasn't as bad. The instructions again SUCK> The pic of the frame is not of an 06 Tacoma but of an 04 and earlier truck. The instructions dose not show or mention anything about having to abandon the two bolts on each side of my factory receiver hitch. Person answering the phone at Body Armor had no clue what I was talking about and kept insisting that my hitch wasn't Toyota which it is. Actually started arguing with me over it and I offered to send pics but they declined. Bottom line is that the new bumper is not attached at the receiver hitch like the stock bumper so you loose the added strength of the connection to the tow hitch and probably also loose some tong weight capacity as the stock bumper was able to provide. They also left out a hole in the top middle of the bumper so that you can put the crank rod through to lower your spare.

The side steps again had crap for instructions. The holes in the steps for the mounting brackets are too close together. Once you put the bolts in there is no way to tighten them as you can not get a socket, boxed, or open end wrench on them to tighten them. Totally sucked as you have to leave them loose so that you can adjust the rails evenly along the side of the truck. I had to grind down a socket paper thin so that I could tighten them once I had the rails evenly aligned. I was told that they were "designed tat way". Who designs two bolts so close together that you can not get a tool on them to tighten them?

The tire carrier was also a nightmare as the instructions again sucked. The bearing detail drawing IS UP SIDE DOWN in the instructions and dose not mention GREASING THE THE BEARINGS> The closer latch is very low quality as the threads on the u-bolt stripped with very little torque. I had to remove the washers on the allen head bolts that connect it to the frame in order to get the latch to go "over center" when it closes. I also drilled a hole down through it so that I could use a trailer hitch lock on it so no one can open or unlatch it. I have not mounted my spare wheel and tire on it yet. Im running 285 75 16's on beadlocks and from what the other reviews are saying the tire mount may not be able to handle the weigh of my spare. WIll know in the morning. I spent the extra dough for a matching wheel and tire and may not be able to use the tire carrier.

I experienced the same "could care less" attitude from their employees and the manager at Body Armor as previously mentioned. They took my legitimate concerns about the design issues and the multiple other problems like I was insulting them personally which I was not doing. I was simply asking for solutions and they offered only "thats the way it was designed". Well, the designs suck and lack basic elements that could really make their product good. Cant tell them anything apparently without them getting POed.

I would have gone ARB but they do not make rear bumpers or side steps for the Tacoma. Wish I had of now and found other suppliers for the the rest. I would not recommend anyone buy Body Armor for a Toyota unless you prepared to have to modify things as needed. I like the Body Armor look but they are about 80% there on design. The attitude and poor customer service that I ran into cancels out what good there is about their surf.

I'd like to counter this. As usual, tacoma world is full of misinfo.
I just installed my rear body armor bumper in about 90 minutes. That included adjustment time.

The instructions were great. They ARE of an 05+ and are even available online in full color.
    The bumper fits great.
It does NOT need to be notched for the spare tire access. Even in the upmost position.
It does NOT touch the tailgate.

    Bottom line is this:

Don't take on a project greater than your skill level. Though bumper install is easy, adjustment can be time consuming and this bumper is heavy.
If you cannot figure out the 18 bolts and full color instructions, pay a professional.
This bumper is about half the cost of others and fits great.

Because this is the Internet anyone can post anything without a statement of credential. Bottom line is that if you have never installed a bumper, don't start with an aftermarket one that weighs 106 lbs. have someone help you and learn by doing.

    I,m happy.

I think that Badgtho is Jeff Neubauer, manager at Body Armor.

Never said that the bumper hit the tailgate. However, when the body armor bumper is in place THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE ROD THROUGH to the spare tire lowering/raising device.

lets see your pics of your rear Body Armor bumper with the tailgate closed and with the Toyota spare tire rod through to the spare.

Update on the spare tire carrier.

Directions as mentioned are horrible and wrong. Additionally they list a "set screw" to hold the bottom cup. There was no set screw or a place to insert a set screw to hold the cup. My kit didnt include the bottom cup and the tire carrier has no place to insert a screw to hold one even if there was one.

The bumper was easy to install and align but it abandons the two receiver hitch bolts which I think makes it a weak connection being its only connected to the frame by three bolts each side. If you were to take a rear end collision I think that the bumper would fair worse than the stock bumper and the rear of the truck would sustain more damage. I know, because I've been hit from behind in a Tacoma.

The post about the tire carrier being unable to support weight is false. Im running a 16' beadlock wheel with a 285 75 16 tire on it. Its rock solid and dose not move. Ive run a chain lock with cover through my wheel and around/though the carrier to secure my spare. Im not worried about the spare or the tire carrier.

Bottom line is all their stuff for Tacoma is off and needs custom widening of holes and other modifications to get it all to work on your truck. Bottom line is that the install instructions are completely weak and need major help. The front bumper especially dose not fit correctly and needs the most help.

First: the two Bolts that were not in the instructions that you removed for no reason at all.

I understand that found this to be a hard project but that's a reflection on you. Not the product.
I read your rant and for a half second I debated not purchasing this bumper. Luckily, my assumption that you are not a DIYer was/is correct.

Do me a favor. Address my point about the vertical bolts.
Why did you remove them when the instructions don't mention them?

Here's a link to the full color and simple instructions so that others can see:
    http://bodyarmor4x4.com/bulletins/TC-2961.pdf

    Ill copy for you:

** Inspect bumper and all parts prior to installation. Contact us at 951-808-0750 for missing parts.

    TC-2961 M12X1.75X40mm M12X1.75 nut M12 Washer M12X1.25X65mm
    Removing Factory bumper:
1 Remove plastic center section from top of rear bumper, and from under license plate
    2 Disconnect license plate light.
3 Remove bolts securing bumper skin to frame and receiver brackets.
4 Remove bumper skin at this time.
    Bumper Installation for TC-2961:
We recommend you have help with lifting of the rear bumper to avoid injury or damage to bumper and vehicle.
1 Remove 5 right side bolts securing bumper and or receiver mount to frame only

Notice that the instructions say to remove the SKIN. Not the entire bumper thus leaving the stock tongue and those bolts in place and unmolested.

Your comprehension is the issue here. Not the instructions.

I do not think that one PM is considered PMING. The "Noob" comment is pretty immature for sure. Tool.

Looks like your bumper is on a Pre Runner and a little lower than mine. I dont get the 4x4 mud flaps. I sold mine to a guy on ebay with a prerunner, maybe it was you. Looks like you reinstalled the two hitch nuts and bolts that connected the receiver to the stock bumper that are now no longer connected to anything. I see to that you were unable to find a solution to lighting your tail light. All States require that all vehicles have a lighted rear taillight.

It also looks like the rod is resting on the top of the bumper and that you have to align the hook just right to slide it through to the square hole in the bed sheet metal that allows access to the tire lowering crank. Thus the rod rides on top of the bumper.

My half round circle cut out makes it so that Im not scratching the bumper or tailgate and I dont have to "fish" the rod through to reach the spare tire crank. With the spare tire installed you can not see the crank and the only way that you can is between the bumper and the tailgate. My extra room lets you see the crank clearly in day light and shine a flashlight through it with the rod installed to see the what your doing.

I guess your comment about "skills" and "comments" is correct in that some folks have no engineering or fabrication skills to fix bad designs or can comment correctly or identify what those are to begin with.

I may be a tool but the truck is 4x4. Wanna see my front diff?

If your bumper sits higher that's your poor adjustment.

Yes, the rod is touching the bumper. I have two hands and both were taking the pictures that your dumb ass requested. No hands touched the rod and as such something called gravity had its way with the rod. I see your fab skills are too notch. I know there's no evolution in Texas but you do have gravity, right?

Those two bolts attach to the stock bumper tongue. That tongue is still connected with 4 bolts and acts as as a truss on the stock hitch. If by connected to nothing you mean connected by 4 bolts as shown in the instructions then ok. You win.

If by tail light you mean license plate lights ill address: With regard to my license plate lights I have ordered a kit, it hasn't shipped yet, so if by "not found a solution" you mean "placed an order for the appropriate solution" then again you win.

    Want to keep going?

    Lol.
It's not that it did not work out for him. He did not follow the instructions, clearly has issues identifying the components involved and fashions himself to be a fabricator.

Everyone's experience is unique but bad reviews like that are dangerous. At least we now know who was writing it.
