block heater?

do these trucks just not come with them? i have searched all over under the hood and cant find a block heater anywhere, i find it odd cuz i bought the truck in Idaho and it gets cold there. Does anyone know what it would cost to have one installed? It gets cold here in Montana -20 plus windchill and i would hate to have to start my engine after a night that cold without it being plugged in.

I believe the P/N is 00213-02141. This may be the Toyota Canada price/part, but it should work.

I would think they would just come standard on all trucks sold in northern states, but i cant use one here in college anyway cuz there are no places to plug in, just hope i do not have to start it on a bitter cold day

 

Well I don't know what to tell you. They are not standard in Canada, and nothing is free. And to be a bit blunt, did you not know what you were buying?

Well you can't use one anyway so who cares. Worst case use that warranty (guessing you have one, brand new truck and all). You should be fine. We experience some cold winters here in FL, last winter it got down to 40 degrees and my truck cranked fine

 

40 degrees is nothing compared to how cold it gets here. Yes i knew what i was buying but i bought the truck this spring so did not even think about the block heater til it got colder

 

If you can't use one then what was your point in posting it? Not trolling, simply asking.

Once you get out of school, or go home for the summer or something, then I would start worrying about it.

I think he mentioned not being able to use it at school. As if he is not in a garage or has no outlet he can use.

We've had winters below zero here and my tacoma's always start every time! I've never had the need for a block heater.

 

Might be a delayed post. But in Northern NY it got to -20F -> -30F last February. It really burned standing outside. Ipod wouldn't even work. My engine cranked after 10-15 super slow turn overs. Car ran for about 2 minutes then I shifted into reverse and it died (5spd manual - didn't even let the clutch out). Wouldn't turn over after that. Caught a ride with a buddy. Came back at 12pm (car was in the sun). Turned over just fine.

Anyways, it snowed today (ugh lol) & I decided I'm getting a block heater in the next 2 weeks. I'll probably get an oil pan heater and a transmission heater at the same time and try to splice them into one cord (with my electrical engineer buddy). If I get lucky I'll try to add a timing circuit so I don't have to fiddle with one at the plug. Idk if i'm going to install the block heater myself or have a shop do it. But from what I've heard the part is $60. For me, that is a small enough cost for the huge peace of mind. I'll be comfortable knowing I'm not killing my engine 5months out of the year.

Also it helps that I still rent & the deal is electricity is free. So I just have to figure out how to run an extension cord out my window and mount a spring loaded spool on a tree in the parking lot. Sounds like fun. XD
