I am not limiting God. I believe that Genesis is 100% true in the fact that God made everything from nothing and that, yes, it took place in 6 days. But where does it say that one of those days was a 24 hour period. The Bible leaves things out. We know theyre were dinosaurs, but where in the Bible does it talk about dinosaurs??? Im just saying one of these "creation" days could be millions of years on earth....

Im just going off of what the people I have talked to say. The majority of the people I work with dont believe in God and they say that humans evolved from apes. Sorry for the confusion.

Evolution has been tought for years. I had a good time arguing with my Bio teacher about evolution years ago. Perhapst it can be used as an opportunity to bring up faith in the classroom. And also to request proof of evolution ;)...

If evolution is to be tought in the classroom as fact, shouldn't it be proven?

It's not taught as fact. It's taught as theory.

Given that, we'd scrap the Theory of Relativity, Newton's Theory of Gravity, the Deflationary Theory of Truth , etc.

You're comparing a belief system based on absolute faith to an analytical approach openly looking to modify itself when new evidence is produced.

Knowledge and learning should not be confined to a finite data set when additional information is available. Likewise, a desired result should not be the starting point for any research.

You're right, it is based on absolute faith. However, if we are to compare evolution to creationism, then we must assume that we're trying to define our beilefs on the origin of life. Where does evolution stand in that respect?

Edit: From UC Berkeley - http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/misconceptions_faq.php#a1

Evolutionary theory does encompass ideas and evidence regarding life's origins (e.g., whether or not it happened near a deep-sea vent, which organic molecules came first, etc.), but this is not the central focus of evolutionary theory. Most of evolutionary biology deals with how life changed after its origin. Regardless of how life started, afterwards it branched and diversified, and most studies of evolution are focused on those processes.

Taken the above, it almost seems that apples are being compared to oranges.

Would anyone like to discuss the Big Bang Theory? ... Someone had to "light the fuse"

Recent theories have suggested that life can live in the center of a black hole. This is where time and light succumb to the power of the black hole and for an instant, remain all together in one space.

Some have floated the theory that our universe is the center of a black hole, and we are currently living in that instant flash of time, light and space.

The original post was asking what people believe in. I stated what I believe in. I don't have to justify it to you or anyone else.

I was addressing your statement that theories should not be taught in the classroom, not stating anything on the origin of life.

I don't have an answer regarding the origin of life, but I did want to point out how you deflected the intent of my post and shifted the conversation towards something that is, at least at this time, unanswerable.

Before you try to "Ah, but I know the origin of life!" response, a lack of an answer from one side does not equate to proof of the opposing argument. It's a common approach, but repetition does not make it any less flawed.

    To have faith is fine.

To base an argument on a book written long after the fact by a collection of authors acting like it is fact... well thats a major flaw.

Personally I believe in Science--there is NO argument that evolution does not happen. PERIOD. How it started.. thats a different story.
