Went to open my truck, unlocked all 4 doors by hitting the unlock button twice on the OEM alarm fob, hear the doors unlock as usual, but as soon as i open the doors, the horn starts blaring! Pretty shocking after coming from a honda with a dinky little squeal for a horn...

    Close doors, nothing happens.
    Hit unlock/disarm repeatedly, nothing happens.

At this point, a couple people have stopped to watch me 'steal' my own car

Stick the key in the ignition and turn it to the 'on' position, alarm stops!

Try to start the car... nothing--immobilizer i'm guessing

Take the key out, horn starts blaring again (at this point, I'm pretty sure I've got some problems with hearing loss)

I panic and put the key back in... get desperate and start doing some crazy combination of key turns, door opening/closing and disarm buttons with nothing really happening--then it all just stops!

    What's the deal?
should I pack earplugs from now on?

Probably should have mentioned one more detail... usually when I lock or unlock the car, there is no horn signal, I have to actually listen for the doors locking or unlocking, or look for the parking lights to go off-- no typical chirp of the horn

Lately though, and seemingly randomly, the horn has been chirping when i lock or unlock the car

I thought I did a decent job going through the manual... but I don't remember reading what it may mean.

Apologies if the answer is super obvious...

Op or anybody if your in a situation where you cant get the horn to stop or something, but you can get in the car, pop the hood and pull the fuse to stop the annoyance until you figure it out, makes it much less stressful

Anybody know if the horn beeping upon locking with the keyless remote is able to be disabled somehow. It's pretty frigging annoying that when I return home at night and lock up, the stupid horn seems to ruin a peaceful night.

Mine doesn't chirp at all-- I figured that was normal as I dont know anyone else's who does, but I could have sworn I saw a thread floating around here detailing how to stop the honking

As for the alarm, I got some PMs and it sounds like the advice here points to the battery being the problem-- I'll check it out tomorrow to make sure it holds a charge, otherwise it's getting yanked!

Thanks for all your help everyone, I'll report in and hopefully close the loop on this thread

yeah I found a thread on tn earlier that I'm gonna check out. I guess that black button that turns red actually does something.

Hey all, just to update you

Got the battery changed out and things work fine again!

I did have to switch to a 24fs from a 27fs though-- anyone see any problems that may arise? I was assured that it would work comparably...

If the alarm is ever going crazy again, disconnect the ground to the alarm box.. I got stuck in deep water and what do ya know the alarm went off like crazy. Still does it to this day, but I don't blame it. Now I just have the alarm disconnected

Well... I was hoping never to touch this thread again, but my alarm starting doing the chirp randomly again.

Battery is still very new and hold charge with no issues. Alarm hasn't gone off yet, but the chirping is probably a sign of bad things to come =(

If anyone's got any ideas, shoot them my way! I'm getting desperate =(

most alarm systems have some type of toggle switch for disabling the system or resetting the system if the alarm is going off. I would check the pressure switch in the engine bay some where the hood makes contact with that, maybe you need to just tighten down on that................ good luck figuring that out, hell i would take it back to the shop that installed it or anyshop for that matter and they will help you out, at least thats how the shops are around here, they don't mind helping out.

maybe it’s the battery on the fob. seams like i remember dads tundra doing that when the remote battery was low.

I've had this happen before on my 02. not using the remote entry. apparently hitting the lil red button to the left of the steering column, while the key is in the on position, stops it. no clue as to what's causing it but it only happens every once in a while
