2012 Tacoma Sport

Not buying just went looking. I don't like the grill, or lights, or the new front bumper. Inside I think is a lot nicer, signals on the mirrors is nice. Looked at the sticker and almost 5,000 for the TRD Sport upgrade. So I looked at the new wheels on the Sport, and they are 18 inch. Then I am looking closer at them new shiny chrome wheels and then say " Those are plastic wheel covers." And yes they are, they are not even real chrome wheels. It is an 18 chrome clad cover, over the existing wheel. Are you kidding me? All that money for a plastic chrome wheel cover. To me Toyota keeps just going downhill. I love my 2010, but am disappointed in the way Toyota is going. I also went and looked at the new Chevy 1500 lifted monster and 60,000 for that? 18,000 of it was dealer installed options. Beautiful looking truck, but 18,000 for a lift kit, wheels, flares, steps, and tires.

 

i'm not understanding toyota on the 2012 either it's fucking stupid i agree the inside of the truck is nice but, the design is in spots the same and in other way's just a giant step in the wrong direction. plastic wheel covers? the same power trains not even a bump in power or efficiency and aside from all that i really have not been liking my experience at either of the two toyota dealerships service dept. wise that is.


the had no awnser for me as to the horrid throw out bearing noise and or the squeaky climate control fan and lets not forget the fact that i have been back 4 times for the same problems and they never even attempted to fix the issues. as a matter of fact both dealerships deny that they are even real issues experienced by many tacoma owners.

the dealership level behavior is not even something i would hold toyota to all that much but the chinsey new design raises more doubts in my mind of how much money toyota is actually losing every month.

 

I love my Tacoma, but if they don't make a more gas efficient truck, it will lose it's appeal. I don't exactly understand it. The Tundra is almost the same highway mileage.

I don't think the previous chrome wheels were 100% chrome. I think they were plated as well.

 

I don't remember any Tacoma's with factory chrome wheels. They did have a 16 polished wheel. But this is not even plated. It is a plastic wheel cover.

 

I think there were some models in other regions that had chrome wheels. Plastic chrome cladding is ridiculous though... that will look like shit in about 6 months, especially with the salt and sand on the roads up here. I'll keep my 2007, I finally got all the issues fixed that Toyota ignored when it rolled off the assembly line

 

The "chrome" wheels were talked about in the 2012 Mega-Thread. Total junk.

I love my truck but am thinking of either a new Fj or 4 Runner. I can take my new 3 inch lift out of it and put it in either.

I'm still trying to figure out how the have the balls to charge almost $100 for one poorly made mudflap. Ripped one off the front the first day. What are they thinking!

 

It is built in America they don't give a shit. Just like the brand new 2008 Honda Accord EXL V-6 I had. Piece of shit, you used to be able to swear by honda. Now American made piece of shit. Sorry but since they started being assembled in the good ole US of A. Quality went right down to shit.

 

Well for everyone that bought the previous Gens be happy you're not getting the crap from 2012 and there after. I'm glass I got one of the last 2011s

 

You do realize the $5000 includes the regular TRD Sport Package (almost $4000, so nothing new) + Entune ($1900 and not worth it IMHO) + the 18 inch clad wheels (an extra $700 or so...wheel upgrades from a dealer or factory are never worth it) right? your not paying 5 grand for the clad wheels.

 

But to see they had the balls to put plastic wheel coverings on is amazing in this day and age.

 

From what a few have said, it apparently is a trend that other automakers are doing. I think its crap too, but I dont like chrome wheels to begin with, much less chrome covers.

 

I agree that they took a step in the wrong direction with the outside looks of the truck and should have went with the interior color from the start.

As for the chrome skinned wheels in plastic. This is actually common now on a number of brands and models. It actually saves weight since true thick chromed wheels that will hold up to the elements are heavy. I worked for a tire place for a bit a number of years ago and all that happens with chrome is pitting, bubbling and flaking, it also causes air leaks. The plastic skinned wheels hold up it is plastic. One of the first that had plastic were the 20" dodge ram wheels and they all still look good, no maint required.

The sad part is the high cost for plastic chrome wheels that they charge as an upgrade.

I like a painted wheel myself. Problem is I have painted wheels and the paint is bubbling. Happened on another toyota I owned as well.

I do have to agree quality has gone down. I bought mine since it was the largest 4 door truck that fit in my garage and the nissan is not my interior style at all. I am a chevy man at heart but a 4 door fullsize doesnt fit and the colorado interior is pretty much a made like a plastic snap together model with poor styling. I would take a 5.3 LSX based engine that wipes up the toyota 4.0 in all aspects.

Look at any truck out there you have to pick what works for you negative and positives weigh them out and pick what comes out best. I would go 2011 OR 4x4 and convert to all silver tacoma for my viewpoints.

damn this is full of so much win...lot of "Car and Driver editors" in here i think some of you guys are better off buying a brick of gold you cant complain alot about that...and it goes up in value
