This reminds me of when my aunt made some homemade rootbeer to take to my grandfathers. Unbeknownst to her or my uncle and they both put yeast in the jug. Half way to the destination we stopped for dinner. My uncle got back in the car and popped the lid to get some rootbeer but when he did the entire gallon of rootbeer geysered out and hit the roof. My 3 yr. old cousin was standing on the seat and was drenched in sticky rootbeer as was the entire interior of the car.

I had a few 22oz bottles of homebrew beer and cider freeze and explode in the truck last winter on a snowboard trip. Couple in the compartment behind the rear drivers side seat and one in the drivers door pocket and rear door pocket... take the door panels off as was mentioned, or the smell will not go away. The liquid drips through the seem in the two pieces of the pocket and gets on the back side of the plastic as well as the metal door panel. It will not clean up well if you dont pull the panels.

I rolled my '95 pickup (before the mid-year switch to "tacoma") on the freeway in a blizzard.
Had just picked up two large Dr. Peppers from a fast food place and they were in the cupholders that pull out from the dash.
Landed right side up and it was raining cola from the ceiling.
Not exactly the spot you are talking about, but seemed semi-relevant enough to share :)

Youre right there, not only because of the WeatherTechs but becuase of where the can was when it exploded. Last time I had a can explode on me it was in the cup holder of my dodge dakota it went everywhere, including all over the ceiling and back seat, and took hours to clean it all up. It was the biggest explosion I have seen from a can, probably in part to it being -35F and at over 11,000 feet.

It looks like somebody hurled. Glad it wasn't that. Talk about a smell you cannot get rid of.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
I've spilled a whole bunch of laundry detergent in there.

Pissed me off, and some still remain, one year later.

I would just use a pressure washer to clean it out. You can spray the crap out of it

    neglect, mostly.
i had the exact opposite of the dr pepper incident happen to me in high school. my jeep was in the shop (go figure) and i was driving my dad's 88 isuzu trooper to school on up and down, curvy country roads. it was towards the end of the year in may. there was a pepsi in the backseat floor boards that kept rolling around so i reached back while i was driving and put it in the passenger seat (it had no cup holders). 7 hrs of education in my brain later and the greenhouse effect on the totally untinted windows of the tropper and the can just exploded at some point. i opened up the door and couldn't figure out what had happened. it just blew out the top and went everywhere. . . . pops wasn't happy either lol.
