Tire Pressure Light

My tire pressure sensor light stays on constantly. I reset the sensor and it stays off for about three seconds and comes back on. It was on before I bought new tires and it is still on now.

I like the black electrical tape and pull the led ideas, but I'm wondering if anyone had luck getting the dealer to fix it.

 

check and see if you have a TPMS sensor on the spare tire..sometimes some manufacturers design them to go off even when the spare is low..if you dont have one on the spare,then inflate all of the tires to the correct psi and drive about 50 miles so it can try and reset...also,have you got your tires rotated recently? i work at a tire shop so we always ask these questions

 

Check your spare. Mine will turn on if the spare tire pressure gets low.

 

I am using stock wheels. I have checked the spare. I have driven for thousands of miles and tried to reset the light with no success.

 

yup i think its time to visit the stealership to see if they can just reset it for you..by now the light should be off

 

One of the sensors in the wheels may be defective (or just has a dead battery). The dealer should be able to figure it out with the handheld reader.

Are you kidding me? These things have batteries that need to be replaced? So every time you replace them, do you have to reprogram them too?

 

You will know this before you take it to the dealer-The TPMS light will flash for like a minute after putting power to the truck before going solid. If it just comes on solid and stays on- It is a pressure issue.

 

It sure was nice of the Pep boys mechanic to try to fix my sensor light problem yesterday by inflating my tires to 40 psi.

 

lol pep boys fail again...we shouldnt inflate more than the psi thats directed unless you have a leak in a tire,even then its still not really a great idea.

 

The TPMS sensor has to wirelessly transmit the pressure reading to the ECU in the truck, so a power source is necessary. The battery is normally quite long-lived, so you get the battery replaced when you get new tires mounted. However, there are statistical outliers and possible temperature effects.

The sensor does not lose its ID when you replace the battery, so you shouldn't need to re-register it with the ECU.

 

from some manuals i read at work,the batteries recharge themselves..for example like on a watch,some of them dont require a battery because when the watch has motion it will charge from the motion..but then again,that may only be on some designs and not all..it may very well have an actual battery
