Should i root my droid?

I just got a droid and everything im seeing makes it look pointless to root this phone, nothing like jailbreaking...... & is there anything like installous for droid

 

It made mine faster, and get's rid of the bloatware that you service provider puts on it.

 

wtf's a droid? Is that the new myspace?

 

no its this new drug all the cool kids are trying, but so far i really miss my ipod touch that was jailbroke

 

An Android phone, it's a phone operating made by google.

Like:
Apple = Iphone
Google = Android

I got my first android device in May, did the research and decided to go for it. If your device is not completely new-to-market then it has most likely had some development done specifically for it by the rooting community.

Rooting itself allows you to access certain functions that a non-rooted phone cannot do. Some that come to mind are:

Free wireless hotspot
taking screenshots
installing custom software (ROMs)
using programs like Titanium Backup to backup your apps and data (USEFUL!)
Installing android updates literally months before your cell provider pushes them to the devices

I was wary of rooting at first, but it's the best way the get the most from your smartphone. Wife got an android a month ago and it is rooted as well.

 

I rooted my droid with Z4 root. To be honest, All I use it for is the barnicle tether and I dont even really use that much.

good enough, i was really hoping it was going to be as useful as jailbreaking,, i.e. installous, but i guess ill go for it, from my understanding it pretty hard to brick your phone right?

it helped out with battery life. i had it set up so it practically wasnt running if i wasnt using it. I also liked that i could wifi tether for free. i never installed any ROMs since i didnt really take the time to read into how to install but i did hear that the cyanogen mod is good. i dont know what installous is so i cant say if there is anything comparable for the droid.

 

Hacking a type of phone to make it where your service provider has less control of what you do basically...

 

you didnt read the drain-o thing? lmao, its one of these new smart phones droid is google's software for these phones and rooting it from what im learning just allows you to do more with the phone than phone companies orignally allow you

 

installous pretty much let you get any app on the market for free, which alot of people look down on because its technically "stealing"

Bricking is pretty hard to do, but just like Taco mods be sure to find a really good write-up before trying to do it. Which android phone do you have?
