1st time Tacoma Owner (2011 4x4)

Greetings from Texas!!! I just traded-in my Silverado LTZ for a 2011 Sport Long bed Tacoma 4x4. Still trying to adjust...anybody do the same??? Silverado to Tacoma??? Thanks guys...

Welcome! I'm a noob myself to the forum. I'm curious about the Silverado, what was your road feel like with the steering wheel as well as the brake pedal feel?

I drove my father-in-law's Chevy Colorado with 70k miles last weekend for 300 miles (I've driven the same trip 3-4 times with it) and was reminded how awful that truck is. The steering was terribly light with almost no feedback (absolutely 0 center feedback so your basically guiding it when going straight and you look like one of those people texting while driving from behind), and brake pedal felt like old style where you actually have to pull your foot back to reach the height of the brake pedal. Then the pedal itself needed pushed quite far to get the brakes the bite. The 5-cyl motor in that truck also sucks...its underpowered and gets terrible gas mileage. This is mostly why I didn't even consider a Chevy at all.

After being in and driving a handful of Chevy cars/trucks, I'm convinced that the number 1 reason people buy them is because they 'think' its the right thing to do in supporting an American company as well as labor even though a considerable amount of the labor is in Mexico and Canada now. Quality, driving dynamics, reliability and features have nothing to do with the decision.

Welcome and yes I did the silverado to Tacoma change sooo how many times have you hit your head getting in :}. All in all the trade to this size isn't bad and some of the mods I did on my chevy are cheaper to do on the toyota go figure LOL.

My old '92 Silverado, a 1-ton, felt like a slug powerwise as it had a detuned 350. Window sticker stated "heavy duty emissions" meaning it was detuned for polution control. The 1/2 and 3/4 tons had more power. Other than that it was a truck, felt fine, just slow. Many times loaded with 3000lbs. of rock. No major repairs in 15 yrs. My 2007 3/4 ton diesel I call the beast. When I get back in the Tacoma it feels like I have to put my foot to the pedal more to get it going and brakes take more pressure on the Tacoma as well. The Chevy's suspension feels spongier feel but putting 2000lbs in it feels better that 600lbs in the Tacoma. The Tacoma feels like a sports car after driving the Chevy except for power. When that turbocharger kicks in on that 6.6L engine it's a beast to behold. But this is comparing apples to oranges. I like both trucks. I never drove a Colorado but reading reviews and comparing all the small trucks specs the Tacoma was a clear winner and I'm quite satisfied.
