Flapping Tonneau at Highway Speed

I have a Access Limited Edition soft tonneau cover and noticed that it really seems to flap at highway speed. What have people done to solve this? Is it caused from air getting into the bed while driving? I thought about sealing all the edges with a urethane sealant or something similar. Any help is appreciated.

 

I'm not familiar with the Access - in how it attaches to the framing.

I have an Advantage and it does the same thing. I don't worry about it at all. The vinyl tonneau material stretches in different temps. In the cold weather, it'll be tight while in the summer, it'll be loose.

I used to own several of those snapped covers and they were a bitch to put on in the winter because the vinyl was so damn hard/shrunk. Those covers had a spring loaded end-frame that always kept the vinyl tight. My Advantage cover doesn't have snaps and is permanently attached to the framing and there's nothing to take-up the slack of the vinyl when its warmer out.

The only thing I do is keep it clean and put vinyl protectant on it to prevent the vinyl from cracking, fading, etc.

 

Yeah...it'll flap a bit because of the air pressures and speeds over the bed. There should be a tensioner at the head of the bed that you can tighten the tonneau with-but the tighter you pull that the harder it is to close and the more the cover stretches.

I use black silicone to seal the corners of the box usually but that's more for water than air.

 

Have you tried adjusting the XT dials to make the tonneau tighter?

 

Ditto, sounds like you just need to tighten it up a little bit. I have the Access Literider and it doesn't flap.

 

Yeah, I did tighten the cover a bit with the dials already. It still flaps. As a side note it seems to do it more on the drive side.

 

Did you tighten them evenly?? Count threads on each side to make sure they match...

 

How do you like it? Just received mine today.

 

I didn't count the threads, but I measured the length of how much was showing on each side.

 

did you ever find out why it was flapping? i was thinking of buying one but this flapping issue is changing my mind.

 

I am following this thread with interest since I just bought an Access Original roll up soft tonneau cover. It is not installed yet as I am waiting for milder temperature to work on it outside. My garage is full of gear and stuff.

 

Any updates on this? Flapping resolved?
