Honestly I think its a good idea if you do that.

But I wouldn't get a jeep. Get a older toyota imo.

I'd either go with an older yoda, or trade your pre-runner for a 4x4. I had a rear locked prerunner (08) too... never looking back at it now with my 4x4. Though, that said I did get up every hill to cove 2... just not easily lol.

Don't be rash though. Sit down, run the numbers, figure out if you'd want to revert your 06 to stock and part out and get a newer 4x4, or get a play toy... but don't do it on a whim... that's where regrets are formed. (also unwanted babies)

Oli, I can probably at least match you with the speed bits, and then tow you up the hills. Pre-runners are fun, don't get me wrong I've been there. But they're no 4x4

but oli a 4x4 can go just as fast as a prerunner.... but a 4x4 can also go up hills/drag locked prerunners up hills.

    Nope... No sliders either.

But can still go places most can't.. wheel placement, driver experience, and common sense goes a long way. If I cant go somewhere.. I just dont go.. its pretty simple. I'm not going to destroy my truck Ive worked hard for. Iv had my jeeps, and two other tacomas that I've wheeled and tore up. I'm runnin this one till the wheels fall off. Im getting older, need to think long term.

I love the idea of keeping my current set up. Like you I want to run this one until the tires fall off. I guess on top of it I want to get a beater 4x4 that I can just tear up. Just run it, if something breaks fix it and kind of keep it as a toy. Plus then I can haul it out to whereever I go using the tacoma!

I made it all the way to the lake front over some big hills. There weren't too many problems getting there- it was the getting back through those rutted out hill climbs. Where are the speed areas? Is that right when you get in over the hill? The place was awesome it was like a giant race track (except where the trails really got narrow and I hit some folliage)

the rutted out hill getting back from cove 1 is ca,led devils playground. you really need to use skinny pedal getting up that in 2wd.

when i get my truck back we will go out there and hit some high speed stuff, but you need to hill climb to get there. i love the wash leading to cove 3, the best folr speed imo

If you follow the base trail that's pretty much your speed spot till you get to 4 peaks. Funny thing is I did better on the way back then getting there...cause eventually I said fuck it, stomped the gas, and let my suspension/locker do the work (as Eric had so humbly suggested that day). That same butcher jones run is the reason I went out and bought my 88 4x4. I LOVE my 2wd Taco. It suits exactly what I need it for here in California. But AZ is 4x4 country for sure.
