if you were to buy new wheels today for your taco(gen1 or gen2), would you be interested in 17x8 or 17x9, given both sizes are available with the proper backspacing. also note if you prefer stock bs(slightly tucked in), fender flush look, or the aggressive stance with minimal bs.

if you view this thread, just vote in the poll. there's no right or wrong answer, i just want to know what you prefer.

Depends on the the tire size. the 8" wide works for 265's, while the 9" may not be approved for that size, depending on the tire manufacturer.

I went with the 8 inch because I went with 265's--I read on here (or somewhere) that 9 inch wheels were too wide for 265's.

Anyways, the 8's worked out really good and I like the stance, my tires are just outside the edge of my fenders:

Are you on stock suspension, I will be installing some 17x8 Pro Comp steelies with a 4.5" backspace but had to get some 1.25" spacers to avoid rubbing.

No, I've got 5100's set to 1.75 in front and TSB springs in rear. And I still got a slight rub on the right side when I'm fully locked to the left.

    To do what?

If you wheel, a narrower wheel holds a bead better. That's an important consideration.

Otherwise, if it's just looks, fuck it.
