if its jetted right it should be able to idle through an entire tank of gas and not foul the plug.

Alright so some are saying a 125 is a bad woods bike, and some are saying they are good. I'll probably use it in the woods alot but I'll probably get into riding at the track too......even though I've never been on one. For someone who will probably want a good bottom end.....how about a yz250? Or is that too big of a step for me? The reason I thought of this is because I've read they have much better power in the bottom end. I'm gaining weight. It'll be something I keep for years (buying new). And I also am not sure if buying a new yz125 would be a better idea because I feel I'd grow out of it quickly. I've looked for used 2 strokes and the nice ones are very slim. I may be getting too far ahead of myself, but let me know what you guys think.

Depends on how careful you can be. that 250 will be a handful for a beginner but I understand where you're coming from with buying a new 125.

I think you should see if you can test ride a few bikes to see which size you like best. then stick it out and look for a used bike, one will pop up eventually.

Well see at first I wanted a four stroke, but after a lot of reading I'm pretty dead set on a two stroke. I kinda want something that's going to scare the shit out of me though, if you know what I mean? I like the challenge. I feel like I'd have to go pretty easy on a 250 for a good while though. I'm still keeping my eye out for a nice used 125. But if I DO buy new I feel the 250 would be the better choice as it's going to always keep me on my toes and it's something I can progressively get better at.

    Oh and I think tomorrow I'm going to go to a dealer and look at a 2011 125 and a 2011 250.

I guess my thinking on the two bikes is this: If I get the 125 it's going to be fun and I'm going to enjoy it alot. But I'll grow out of it, the challenge factor won't be there as long.

If I get the 250: yes it's a huge step and it has a lot of power, but just because it has all that power doesn't mean I have to use all of it. It's like buy it once and don't buy again. If any of that makes sense.

Yes I am also more partial to the Yamaha, however I have heard nothing but good things about the 03 RM. The deal breaker on the 2t and 4t was the cost to maintain each. If a 4t was as cheap as a 2t then I would buy a 4t.

I completely disagree with honda being reliable and no maintenance. I had a 07 crf250 and had to do the valves two times in one summer and then a top end after that so I hate honda's. Go blue and never look back...that's why I ride a yz450 now. Never had to touch the engine for anything and I've had it for three summers.

i have both a 250f and a 125... i dont ride the 250 much anymore because it is so expensive to maintain.. the 125 is still going strong. plus when you see people on 125s i always think theyre cooler than the 250s just because its a 2 stroke. :D

my buddy has an 04 crf250f and that thing wont start after you get it running and it bacfires like a mofo when you are decelerating. my bike is doing that a tad bit so ive stopped riding it and saving to adjust the valves. but no matter how hard you abuse yamaha, they will keep going and going. except if you run of out gas like me

Does anyone know how I can get a good estimate of what a used bike is worth? I might go look at this RM today or tomorrow. He says it has around 10 hours on the rebuild.

I sold my 2002 KX125 about 4 years ago for 1500, and it was very clean with about 10 hours on the top end. (it also had zip tie stitches holding the rear fender together but no biggie lol).

that RM is maybe worth 1300

edit: this was my KX right before I sold it:

Goodness you guys on the West end get the deals over there. Bassett isn't too far from me. Me and my mom are going to look at bikes tomorrow, yz125 and 250. I've read putting a flywheel weight on the 250 makes it much more fun and forgiving?
