eibachs or OME question

i have 09 4x4 w/rear TSB done. i just put on 885 OME coils up front with the 5100's, now i am 1 inch high in the rear. rides nice but i like the level look. You guys that have the 5100's set at .85 w/ the eibach coils do you like it and is it a higher lift than the 885's. also how does it ride (reason i ask is because i just saw a post where one member said the eibachs would ride better because they are a progressive rate spring and the ome's are something different??

 

The reason for the post is i was thinking of switching to the eibachs.....maybe i am being a little bit to picky??

I'm curious, with 885+5100s up front, having the rear TSB done shouldn't give you 1" of rake.

However, 885 coils are longer than the Eibach coils so it's not recommended to have the 5100s set at anything other than 0 with the OMEs. If you went to Eibach set at .85, I'd venture to say that you would net the same amount of lift as you have now (2-2.5 inches??). If you want to raise the front some more, you can put in a 1/4" or 1/2" spacer to get you to even rake.

Measure from mid-hub straight up to the bottom of the fender and post your numbers.

Both OME and Eibach are linear, OME springs are longer but have less spring rate (590 lbs) and Eibach are shorter (OEM length) with a higher spring rate (620 lbs).

So, the 5100's set at the first setting (.85) with the Eibach springs avg 2-2.5 inches of lift? I am about 3/4 of an inch low up front with 5100's set at 1.75" with the rear TSB. I was concerned about going to the 2.5" setting because of the stiffer ride some claim, and the need to go to UCA for proper alignment. Anyone know if the 5100 @ 2.5" or the 5100 w/E springs gives a better ride? Its seems the UCA may be needed with the 5100/E spring as well. Any comments?

 

I have the ebiach springs and blistens on mine. I have about 2.5 of lift on the front and the TSB on the rear. Running 265-75-16 tires. No rubbing on the tires, no alignment issues and my front boots are at a good angle so no worries about damaging them. I have around 35000 miles on it now and the tires (which I replaced at about 3000 miles) have not worn at all. It helps that I keep them rotated every 4k miles or so. I cannot really tell any difference from the stock setup with ride or handling....of course it has been some time now and I may have just gotten used to it. My wife said it rides like a truck - just what I wanted. If I had wanted a soft ride, I would have bought a car.

 

Since you're a Prerunner AC, your truck is pretty light so you should get about 2.5" of lift with the Eibachs at .85. Your issue with the UCA would be similar with the Eibachs or your stock springs set at 2.5

I haven't had any experience with the stock springs set at 2.5 but I'd say the ride with the Eibach's would be better due to there being less preload on the spring. The Eibach's use their stiffer spring rates to achieve the lift instead of compressing a softer spring more.

i have the 5100/eibach/1/2 spacer on both sides. Gives me roughly 3in of lift but a little more on the passenger sides. at 3 inches you will need aftermarket uca's to get the camber in spec and desired caster. at 2.5" of lift. without the spacers you should be fine without uca's. 5100 settings are at .85 level with this info. hope it helps.

 

I was a little higher in the rear at first. Looking at it from the side now, it looks level to me. I do have about 300# in the rear all the time. I also tow trailers once a month. It may just be my shocks which I bought but just have not replaced. Note...I have never measured the lift.

 

So, no UCA upgrade and your not finding your truck "wondering" a little on the highway or at higher speeds?

Makes sense, are these Eibach springs available only on Toytec's site, or are there other sites selling these same springs? It seems Toytec has their springs painted silver, but I am use to seeing Eibachs in red? I thought that was their signature color. I know they can be painted or powdercoated any color, but just wondered if there are other suppliers for these springs or if anyone knows who has the best prices if your shopping for just the springs? Anyone have a part number? Thanks guys

 

I just looked at your photos and the one side shot you have of your truck seems you are sitting higher in the front then the rear. Maybe due to the 300# in the rear?

 

As far as I know, Toytec is the only supplier of Eibach coils. The red ones you're seeing are from Toytec's Ultimate Lift Kit (or could be another brand). I haven't seen red Eibach coils on a Tacoma yet.

The Toytec/Eibachs are likely custom ordered from Eibach by Toytec (length and spring rate).

 

If memory serves me right, I ad 300lbs of corn in the bed and all my tools...300 lb. NO aftermarket UCA's on this truck and it does not wonder all over the road, no vibrations, no pulling left or right.

 

Right. The Toytech/Eibachs are 620lbs rate springs.

12-14" long, 3" ID springs from Eibach (NOT Toytech/Eibachs) only go to 600lbs.
