Brake Shims

    Should I use the new shims that came with the Durlast pads or reuse the OEM shims?

    Just asking for opinions as I know our brakes can be picky about movement and squealing.

    i would say the old ones seeing that on the old ones where it contacts seem bigger than the plate on the new ones

    I tried taking off the Duralast shims but they appear to be glued down. Can I use the OEM shims over the Duralast shims? And should I use both OEM shims or just one.

    K&N intake, Boston Acoustic SL 60 6.5 components up front, Rockford Power T16 6.5 in rear, Pioneer P4100 HU, Soon to be Pioneer Prs 4200f
    the new shims have that coating on them to help stop squealing... if you put the old ones over the new ones you might not have enough room with the added thickness.

    that being said, id use the new ones only and add a bunch of brake lube on them

    You are correct...I can't get both of the OEM shims in but can get 1 of them in with the Duralast pads.

    So should I got with no OEM shims or 1 shim :confused:

    Rear Gate security Mod (although I seldom take my eyes off it) "Harsh Ride" Shocks and Springs TSB performed by "Me" New Cooper Discoverer AT3s 265/75R16s (fit well) Front "Tacoma Mike" light mod! Rugged Ridge floor mats. Bought another set of D rings and installed them in my wheel well. Perfect! Just hit the big 6000 Miles 12/19/11, Installed an alarm system to go with my factory power door locks 1/21/12
    I personally would just use the one that came on the pad.... dont sweat the details.

    just use the new shim and lube the shit out of the contact area make sure you clean it first..................

    Finished the brakes up and all went well. Used the Duralast shims only with a ton of lube and so far so good with no brake squeeling (have only driven about 10 miles). I kept the OEM shims just incase I need them later on down the road. Thanks again for the help.

    Wise. I somehow left out one of my corolla shims on a brake change, and then on the last change I noticed that the pads wore unevenly on one rotor. The missing shim pad was rubbing metal.
