    I need to borrow a heavy duty spring compressor. Not one of those $50 AutoZone toys and nothing from Harbor Freight.
    I need to disassemble my ToyTec coilovers to see if they were assembled correctly by the shop I brought them to. I have reason to have doubts.

    Anyone near the Florence, SC area that has one for me to use?
    Willing to rent it or trade the rental time for your favorite beverage.

    This is currently installed. As you can see the top bushing isn't compressed at all, and I can rotate the washer with my hands. The top nut is wrenched down to the bottom of the available thread.

    The problem is that there is so much room for the shaft to move that it causes a very annoying squeak, constantly, while driving or while rocking the truck while parked. If I pull/push the shaft a little with my index finger (no force needed) the squeak goes away.

    After going over this with ToyTec they told me there should be way more compression up there and they speculate on missing parts under the top plate.

    So, I want to disassemble them to see what is under the top plate, and to remedy the situation if there are any bushings missing there.

    I borrowed a set earlier this year and I just couldn't get myself to use them. They looked really flimsy and my fingers are my bread-and-butter. Maybe I just got a badly abused rental unit.

    the pic looks like its not tight enough, as the rubber washer isnt compressed at all... and i would want to take a lot under the top plate too

    with the spring compressor make sure you can thread them with your hands... and some sort of impact wrench makes light work of them, evenly of course

    Um....wtf...It looks like they re-used the flimsy-ass top plate from your stock C/Os or something...Toytec C/Os are supposed to have a very thick top plate that is clearly visible below the coil bucket...

    Look at this picture...look at the top of the C/O...then look at your pic:

    No the re-use of the top plate was part of the deal. I didn't buy the pre-assembled struts. I got the individual parts during a group buy and you were supposed to re-use the top plate since it didn't come with one (by design).

    So you didn't get Toytec COs, you added Toytec Coils to 5100s, yes? That would be different - confusion of terms.

    In that case, yes, there may be a parts issue - but whether it's something missing I wouldn't know. Not that familiar with Toytec's kits. My first instinct is that these coilsprings are meant to be more compressed when the strut is assembled and the slim stock top plate doesn't provide enough compression for things to be set up correctly.

    Sorry for the confusion. Yeah, TT's best guess is to see what's under the top plate. More specifically what is missing.

    So who has a spring compressor I could borrow and/or some time to mess around with my struts? (the more the merrier)

    you should be able to take the whole coilover set up out and be able to see if there is a bushing under there or not... one thing is sure is that there isnt enough pressure on that top bushing

    All that stuff should be visible without disassembling the CO. You might even be able to see if it's in place without removing 'em from the truck.

    That said, if you do need to take 'em off, that's no big deal and you don't need a spring compressor as long as you're leaving the C/O intact.

    I know I can take them just out without disassembling them. I'm just not sure if I can see enough to decide what the issue is. I hate to take them out, not being able to make a determination, and then not having the means to disassemble the struts. That would have just wasted time. I'll try and take a closer look tomorrow while they're still mounted.
