    Well, I wouldn't say Tacoma specifically, but I know a bunch of people with different vehicles who have not had any issues with these ballasts. They would highly recommend these to anyone. To be honest, most if the Tacoma owners I know who have HIDs did the complete HID retrofit.

    I will say that these ballasts are some of the best aftermarket ballasts out there. I can't speak for the bulbs, I assume they are good bulbs, but all the people I know use the 55w ballasts from Retro-Solutions and put in Philips 35w D2S bulbs because those bulbs are awesome and can be pushed to 55W ballasts for greater light output.

    There is a high demand for nice 55w ballasts since there are no OEM 55w ballasts made. So in saying that, these ballasts you got are considered the OEM equivalent of 55w ballasts, if they were ever made.

    Here's your comparisons. Please note that these pictures are done with the same bulbs, but different ballasts. I recommend Philips 85122 or 85122+ bulbs for both 35w and 55w ballasts. You can pick up a pair of new ones for $90-$100 and used ones for $40-$50 a pair.

    Yes, HID light bulbs get hot than stock. OEM HID headlights use projectors that are made of mainly ceramic to trap the heat from contacting the rest of the headlight.
