    i've replaced all 3 of my idler pullies and still get the "chirp" when it's cold or damp, it goes away after it's been running for a few min. but it drives me nuts, looks like i'm gonna have to get a belt tensioner and swap the pulley off of it and see if that cures it, if that doesn't fix it i'm probably gonna run my truck off a cliff:mad:, oh i also put a new belt on

    had this same problem on my mustang. Used WD-40 to spray on each individual pulley to figure out which was the bad one. Or are you saying that that they're all failing on after the other? because that sucks!:)

    Just one of those things... ignore it. Mine has been doing it since it was new. 81k now
    Changing a pulley wont stop a belt chirp anyways. Try roughing up the belt's back surface

    haha doesn't make me feel as bad i'm right at 80k, my other pullies bearings were shot, i'm gonna try the tension pulley and then if that doesn't fix it i'm just gonna say the he!! with it and ignoor it, some have said to try soap but i was looking for a permanent fix lol, i'll update once i get the tensioner pulley on

    Did you try replacing the belt first before swapping out all of the pulleys?

    yeah last year i did a new belt and top pulley, problem solved, then it started again a month or so ago so i did the 2 lower pullies, problems still there so i'm left with the tensioner pulley, we'll see what happens!

    I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    I hear ya. Those pulley are crap to begin with. To save money you can just punch the seal of the bearing and put some grease there instead of keep buying pulleys. Tensioner is probably your culprit. Worst come worst it could be alternator .

    ^yeah i did that on one of them for awhile, i'm not gonna replace the whole tensioner (looks like a PITA) just gonna try to swap the pulley off of it and go from there

    Remember the tensioner pulley bolt is a left hand thread. All the other pulleys are right hand threads.

    Clean the pulley surfaces. Just the oils from your hands when you changed it will cause it to chirp. I used alcohol and a new tooth brush.

    Dumbest thing on newer vehicles is serpentine belts IMO. V-belts never failed me, they were cheap, no need for a bunch of idlers because the tension was set by hand with a bolt setup. That said it lasted 180,000km before it started having issues, replaced the upper idler and its quiet again.

    amen to that, my 170,000mi subaru hasn't had one single problem with the belt system or any system for that matter, but my truck that's 6 years newer and has half the mileage sounds like a 1986 caprice when i start it (ok it's not that bad but still), i'll try to give it a good cleaning, as for the guy sellin the belt i dont need one but thanks for the offer, mines not even a year old, i'd hope they last a little longer than that:eek:

    update, replaced my tensioner pulley, didn't fix the problem, pulled the belt and cleaned all of the pullies with brake clean and put a new belt on.... chirp is gone for now, we'll see how long it lasts:rolleyes:

    If it does this again my guess is a tensioner that is weak. This over time will cause the belt to glaze from slippage. The only remedy is a new tensioner.

    i got the belt from autozone, they're the ones that originally carried the gatorback belts, said they dont have em anymore that's what i was looking for

    Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
    Spray water on the belt, if the chirp goes away, it is either the belt or one of the pulleys is out of alignment. If the chirp stays, do the WD-40 trick an earlier poster suggested.
