Nice, thanks everyone. You guys are intense but I like it. I'll be using my Taco for daily commuter through the city and will probably be in pretty rough terrain 15% of the vehicles use. Im 6'3 so not worried about not seeing over the scoop.

Went to the dealer today and wanted to order 2012 DCLB with TRD Sport package. Guy told me he can only order the TRD Sport Upgrade package with the chrome wheels, navi etc. in California. I called BS. He was gonna contact Toyota and let me know in 2 days.

the hood scoop has nothing to do with tire placement thats what your windows and buddies are for...if the hood scoop is interfering for "tire placement" your doing it wrong

BS for sure. California posters have bought TRD Sport (non-upgrade) trucks already. However, there do seem to be more Upgrade Sports out there than non-upgrade. Probably because it looks different and dealers have ordered tons of them right from the get-go. It's most likely that said salesman either was trying to sell you one in-stock rather than having you order it, or actually was totally ignorant. If he persists at being a jackass, find another dealer. OH, also research your prices before you buy - truecar.com. Might save you a couple G's

I would hazard that our definitions of "rough terrain" are very different if you're even considering a DCLB. Not that that's a problem; just saying, there's some calibration that needs to be done.

For example: If you're not dragging the undercarriage and sliders, it's not rough terrain.

I loved HB Murphy's comment to me about his Off Road (standard) hood... He wished he could turn it over to make it even lower than it is! You see I am talking about serious off roading and not always having buddies along or making them walk ahead of me to help with tire placement. I prefer to see the ground for myself.

While I never off roaded with a Sport, I did test drive one on the streets at my dealer... and the most obvious difference between a standard hood and a Sport hood was that scoop... and then to find out it doesn't direct any air into the engine, but is just there to make the truck look like a Rickey Racer... I was disappointed that Toyota would put anything fake on such a great truck.

Obviously, there are so many of you who love that scoop, Toyota was smart to stick it on there!!! They got your $$$!! My money went to a locking differential and A-TRAC... things that work, move my truck anywhere, help pull friends in the desert or mountains, and don't block any view of the ground ahead! That's all... different strokes for different folks!

the scoop brings in fresh air to help push the drivers heads out of their asses. too bad the off-road owners don't have this luxury.

Funny, but I read he wanted an OFF ROAD but learned it wasn't available in a long bed! Whose head is where???

To the OP, What about the bed extender for when you do need a longer bed, instead of having the long bed all the time? A long bed DC wouldn't fit in my garage, as well as being less off road-able on trails.

Make sure that the 2nd generation Tacoma standard 5 ft. bed won't fit what you need to carry... They are deeper and wider than the 1st generation Tacoma. I had a 6 ft. bed on my '01 and when I went to a DC in '05, I was sure I needed the bed extender to fit my work supplies... Surprise! The 5 ft. bigger bed fit everything my older Tacoma's 6 ft. bed carried.

I wasn't the one who posted the head up the ass comment although it seems pretty fitting right about now .

The OP's original question was answered after the first few posts , now this thread is the repititious Sport vs Offroad BS

In keeping with how this usually goes down , you should now try and convince the OP he doesn't need a longbed
