Does a lift make a truck safer

Short story.

My Tacoma is a replacement vehicle from my 2010 mazda 3 sport which was wrecked beyond repair when I was rear ended at a red light by a idiot texting on his Blackberry. Did not even look up when he hit me going about 60-65km/h.

I wanted something a little larger but practical so I went with the 4 door Tacoma sport (which is a money pit (mods,mods,mods....)).

Will lifting a truck make it safer.

Nope, less safe. No matter what anyone says its not as safe as a stock tacoma.

Safe from another hit. Rear end or front end collision.

 

When did he say anything about adding larger tires?

 

No, it doesnt. People lift their trucks to increase offroad ability (Or to add looks) but it's not as safe.

It's easier to push over a dude on stilts than a midget with shoes.

 

That's a terrible analogy for these trucks

Then he's about normal size, but with shoes. Still easier to push over

 

The higher you go the safer it gets

I'd start with a body lift personally...

 

He didn't. (although statistically speaking, the vast majority of people who lift also increase tire size)

But the height factors remain a dilemma. Not to mention your increased clearance might result in more undercarriage damage in the event of an accident, as opposed to damage to the crumple zones normally experienced by a standard-height Tacoma.

Yeah...a lift makes you safer from collisions if you have a "huge" lift with "huge" tires.....but a Tacoma will not give you that.

 

Long travel might actually make it safer. It raises the center of gravity a bit, but it also increases track wich which would make it more stable.

 

I think anytime you mess with what it is factory tested for safety, it makes it hard to say whether or not it would be safer.

 

What if you wrap the truck I'm bubble wrap. That would make it safer!!
