    That sounds cool.

I've only lived in Nanaimo for a year, have not found too much interesting, its already more gated off than it was when I first moved here, Ive driven as far as the Nitinat - Alberni crossing and explored pretty much everything in between.

Unfortunatelysome are hard/impassible in a vehicle. South Shawnigan area is gated including Leechtown, Weeks lake etc, Jarvis lake is pretty washed out, and closed I believe, have not been up there in a long time. A lot of the area is dirtbikes only because of the gates, or something more capable pretty much.

There's more plane crashes around the Island, Witchcraft Lake on Mt.Benson has some minor stuff, plus Ammonite Falls is right close by.

Mt.Bolduc plane crash is neat in Cowichan I hear.

I have searched for a long time for the Gordon River caves, im assuming i'd need a canoe or kayak because I have not been able to spot them from any road, I camp on the sand bar every year. Mclure lake is pretty boring but I hear theres a road that goes all the way to the west coast trail, never gone that far myself. You can still drive from Shawnigan lake to Renfrew, but I heard theres a bridge out. Maid Lake is a cool place to camp.

Do we want to set a date for a drive?
Would Saturday Nov 5th work? Just putting it out there to gauge interest.
The plane wreck site sounds like it offers a nice drive and an interesting destination. Possible hike option to check out the wing tips is an added bonus.

I'd be interested for a run on the 5th. Also I drove from shawnigan to bear creek resivoivoir last weekend so all those games are open except for the last one but there is a cool trail around. Depending on how far up island we deside to go I might be into a camp over saterday night since it's a bit of a drive back to sidney.

So let's shoot for Saturday the 5th.
    Location TBD.
Members in, NFK has a list running but we should confirm.
If we can keep it relatively close to Victoria, that would work best for "most" of us.

5 Nov sounds good to me. I vote for Shawnigan to Bear Creek Reservoir. If we're voting that is...

I haven't seen pics of everyones truck, does anyone have a winch? I don't have one, but it's on the short list of things to do.

Sure I'll vote for shawnigan to bear. I did it last weekend And there is no need for a winch for what I did but if someone knows some sweet trails the. I'd be into a detour :). Maybe a bondfire at bear in the evening? Also does anyone have radios? I have yet to get a cb for the truck but I do have 2 hand help 2way radios. If we had a bunch of them then we could all chat while driving.

    Up Hemmingsen main.

Can drive to Bear Creek but a friend was out there on his dirtbike and said its just full of shotgun shells and garbage, Ive been once but in the pitch black. I grew up in Shawnigan Lake, the gates have always been hit or miss and there's a lot of them out that way, Its a pain when the main one is closed at the bottom of Kapoor hill, or when you get closed in. I really prefer dirt bikes out that way these days.

I'l be heading out this weekend (Oct 22nd) if anyone wants to join, maybe some gold panning out some where, not sure yet. I can borrow some of those Cobra Two Way radio's also.

ya it is crazy with gates up there. the gate going down to bear creak from jordan main west is locked couse they are logging along forby east main but there is a trail around just before the gate and there is no gates after that to get out through jordan river.

Another option is Oliphant Lake, It might be too hard for our trucks though, especially getting around the first gate on the Bamberton turn off. My old stock 88 4runner had no problem besides dragging the rear bumper quite a bit for that reason I don't think the Tacoma would do it because it overhangs so much more and theres alot of places where it would get hung up, its all avoidable.. im just trying to get an idea of what exactly we *could* run for trails. Anyways, if you drive far enough you come out on shawnigan lake road (last pic shows its pretty steep).

Sometimes... the gate is open in Spectacle lake trailer park, in that case it takes a whole 10 minutes to get there, nice spot to camp etc.
