guys with ATV plows ----->

any of you guys using a front mounted plow instead of the conventional belly mounted plow? i'm getting ready to order my plow this week and i've been eyeing the front mounts, no loss in ground clearance, sharper pivot angle (raises higher and faster)

just thought i'd see if anyone on here has one and how they like it

let me know how it works. we looked at them for the rhino. when we get snow sometimes like 6” or any we only have 2 trucks that can get in and out. we live on a hill and drive way is kinda long. and i think we spent like $150 or $200 on salt. and i would go out in am when it was still dark and lay it. took me like 35 min.

edit: also exactly how dose it mount? front hitch receiver? or what?

 

it should be here today, i'm not 100% sure how it mounts, no hitch or anything like that, it mounts to the frame on the front of the machine

edit, i'll throw some pics up tomorrow or friday of it mounted so you guys can see the mounting points ect

 

I'd love to have a front mount if they made one for my '01 Sportsman. Never had a ton of issues with my belly mount but it has caused me to get stuck a couple times.

 

the plow was here when i got home from work tonight, looks pretty tough, i assembled as much of it as i could b4 i had to get to bed, tomorrow i'll have it all mounted up and ready to go, standby for pics

 

sweet! i even got to thinking that if we got one. i could do my neighbor’s drive way if they wanted and my best friend that lives 0.8 miles up the road. me and my friend ride the dirt bikes at rhino up and down the road. the cops don’t even care. we have passed them on the road. we do live kinda out in the country. i’m about 30min from knoxville.

thanks guys, yeah it's a 420 rancher with IRS (i'm not into solid rear axles on ATV's) and yeah built that snorkel for it, kept having problems getting water in my airbox, not anymore!! next on my to do list is a pair of rack mounted aux lights cause as you can see, with the blade up i wont be seeing s%#@ at night lol

edit, it also has 26in tires, a HMF exhaust, powercommander 5, and the 2500lb winch with synthetic rope, i just took the 2in wheel spacers off of it, they wore out my front wheel bearings in 1 years time so i'm back to the narrow stance (as seen in the pics) not worth it to me

this ATV will be white in a couple months, i'm swapping the red plastic out for a brand new set of whites, i wanted white when i bought it but they only made white in 09 and mines a 10'

 

sweet yeah nice set up! solid sucks on atvs. yeah my brother got water in are engine. cost like $800 to $900 to get it fixed. it had to be bored out and new piston and stuff.and yeah you’ll need some more lights. nice what kinda tires? and yeah spacers will do it. maybe look at a wider rim it self. there are like 3 or 4 diff withs that i know of. i think. 8”(thats usually stock on front) 10”(usually stock for back) and i think there is a 12”


i love are dealer. they sell honda and yamaha. they are great. if i need info on something they help me out. and if something is an easy fix i can do. they tell me how(if i don’t know) to save money and time to take it down there and go get it. and since we deal with them on every thing. we get like 10% off on anything. and we are set up that if i call and order something.(like new spokes for my dirt bike, or new throttle cable for the rancher) we pay when we pick it up. most people have to pay at time of order.

 

the tires are maxxis zilla's, the rear wheels are ITP because the factory rims are 11in on the rear and there are virturally no aftermarket tires in 11in so i had to get a set of 12in rear rims, i think they're 7 or 7 1/2in wide, you dont have very many options with the IRS as far as wheel choice goes, i love this ATV tho it will go just about anywhere, it rides like a dream on the trails, and it has a decent amount of power all things considered

 

yeah when we put new tires on the recon we had that prob. we put mud lights on back and had to go stock on front. and most the time when someone puts aftermarket tires on they do wheels too. and i hear the the older 350cc ranchers are kinda hard to find aftermarket tires to fit on stock rims. and yeah will go just about any wear. and are reliable.

 

I like that set up, i have a bottom mount. Its caused me to get high centered enough to swear at it in the summer. But i praise it in the winter. Never had much of a problem pushing the snow around, even wet stuff. My suggestion would be, depending on how much you get a year, would be too push the snow as far back as possible starting from the first storm. These can push some snow, but they cant push piled.snow. Also the feet on the bottom that the plow rests on, i take them off even at work, wears the blade a little faster, but i find it.scrapes better. Just suggestions. Good luck. Looks like a nice atv

 

OP, are you running a synthetic winch rope or a steel cable (looks like synthetic to me)?

I'm tempted to buy the same plow you did (I have a 2009 Rancher), but want to avoid changing out my winch line for a short plow rope. That way, when I want to ride the bike, I can drop the plow and I'm good to go with full winching capability. I have a synthetic rope and wonder how much damage the lifting the plow would do to the rope.
