Essential tools in your truck

socket and wrench sets, straps, ties, cords, duct tape, blocks of wood for under jack, jumper cables, spare fuses, qt of oil, jug of coolent, maps, come along, flares, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, jb weld, cheater bar, shovel, hammer, pry bar, bottle jack, jack stands, tire inflater, tire pressure gauge, blankets, flash light, under hood light that hooks up to battery, some food, bottle of water toilet paper, etc.

 

do yall work out of your trucks or what? and my suggestion for this thread is water food and a gun

I keep a small socket set, all in one screwdriver, multimeter, a few bungees, first aid kit, gloves, large and small maglites, tow strap and shackle for the hitch, portable air compressor, this badass crowbar/hammer thing. Probably forgetting a couple things. Not really planned out, just have accumulated those items over the past couple years.

 

I have a low-profile lowes toolbox mounted to my truck that I keep my gear in. I broke it down by category:

For changing tires
Breaker bar and socket (for lug nuts)
12 ton bottle jack and jack stand


General repairs
Tool bag full of various tools, eg. screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, zip ties,
Gorilla tape
Gloves
A tupperware box of various nuts, bolts and fasteners


Electrical
Complete set of automotive fuses
Portable battery jump-starter with air compressor


Emergency
Fire extinguisher (full size)
Pry bar set (eg. in an emergency and need to open a car door)
Flares and roadside reflective triangle thingy


Other
Extra coolant and 5w30 oil
Ammo can full of tie down straps
30,000lb recovery strap and shakle
Flashlight
Rope
Rags
Bike pump
Longboard skateboard for getting from the parking lot to the beach faster!

 

Trib do I also see fire wood in the tool box haha

 

all i have is:
scissors jack from a toyota supra (stock jack doesn't fit under my truck)
1/2" snap on ratchet to whack crazy people with.
19mm socket
spark plug socket
1/4" ratchet with 10, 12 mm sockets
lots of rope stuffed in the back two bed storage compartments

i travel light =)

the tool box thread got me thinking. what tools are MUST have for every day driving in our trucks? i want to put together a basic setup without having to carry a huge box of tools that i dont need.

if a similar thread has been made, post that up, as i couldnt find one.

 

Im the only tool in my truck..

 

I keep a small compressor and a tire plug kit in the truck. Aside from that, just the factory lug wrench and jack.

(unless you count a knife and flashlight as tools)

big wool coat type mostly seen on people wearing suits, this thing is so huge and warm it is an emergency item buried in case of need

A couple smaller socket sets. All in one screwdriver, crow bar/hammer contraption, couple other misc hand tools, 2 flashlights and headlamp, tire gauge, voltmeter, tow strap and shackle for hitch, pocket knife, pliers, various bungees and ratchet straps. Maybe a couple other things I've forgotten.
