I has a Troy brake.

Love it, sounds louder too. Maybe a bad thing. Haha

 

Pros: Control muzzle rise

Cons: Many muzzle brakes direct some of the blast back at the shooter, which is unpleasant and can create bad habits (flinching).

You get what you pay for, especially in the directing the blast away from the shooter category.

 

I've never seen the need for a muzzle break on an AR. Certainly not on a .223. When I was a youngster going through basic my brother asked what shooting an M-16 was like. My reply to him was that it was like a loud BB gun. (Bear in mind I was shooting a 12 gauge and .30-06 when I was 13 Y/O weighing 100 pounds)

 

PWS FSC556, it's a muzzle brake and a flash hider all in one, i have it on 2 of my rifles and wouldn't trade them for anything, almost zero felt recoil and no flash, what more could you ask for?

 

I like doing rapid shooting....like 5 in a row.....I'm thinking a brake might be just the thing to get the gun back on target quicker.

I have a Troy Claymore. I like it a lot. seems to keep the muzzle rise to a minimum.

 

You could ask for less hearing damage.

Brakes on AR15's are for looks, unless you're in 3-gun competition and firing strings.
It's like driving with your fogs on in traffic....'look at how cool I am!'

 

that's the most ignorent statment in this thread, did you not watch those video's? zero felt recoil and zero muzzle climb, i do shoot in 3 gun matches every month if that's what you're getting at, this muzzle brake just so happens to compensate muzzle climb and act as a flash hider at the same time

it's your own stupid fault if you dont wear hearing protection when you shoot

In re hearing damage, it's the people to the side of the muzzle that get the most pressure, not the shooter...but you probably already knew that.

Felt recoil and muzzle rise are both lessened. Some good brakes/comps out on the market. I stand with kessler, they're very functional depending on your philosophy of use for your rifle. The Ranier Arms XTC I have is great. I'd expect someone with and SBR and who runs 3 gun to know a little more than someone who doesn't know shit about Spikes Tactical and runs an RRA so I'm not surprised you don't know shit about brakes either.

Recoil and muzzle rise on a M-16/AR-15 style rifle, are you serious??? They have about as much as a red ryder BB gun. Its not a M-14, M-60.

I have to side on the "cool" factor for the muzzle brake. I have shot in competition and in combat and there is absolutely no need for one on, period. I still cant get over the sound of one shooting, sounds like a toy. I love the mechanical metal noise of my M-14.

 

yeah my AK47 makes all kinds of "metal noises" when i shoot it, doesn't mean it's "cooler"

i consistantly took 2nd place (behind one of my buddies) at the majority of our matches this year using this rifle, the comp does make transitioning from target to target faster and more accurate, i shoot thousands and thousands of rounds a year, it makes a difference to me



edit and just to clarify i dont think a AR15 "kicks hard" i have a M1garand that has alot more wack than the said M14, it's about control and speed
