    where in SJ do you live..? Ive looked into whether NJ has some sort of Castle doctrine...they kinda do but its very vague... considering our state isnt so gun friendly...it sucks to have to think twice what you do with your guns (Brain Aitken). Bottom line better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

    I'd definitely consider an alarm. If not and you own guns then definitely a good gunsafe. My house was broken into two years ago and I wasn't home. Luckily all my guns were hidden and he couldn't take much. The following week I bought a gunsafe. And in the meantime had to cover the broken window with plywood that read "any and all tresspassers that are found in this house will be shot". But I understand the not being able to sleep peacefully etc. Good that you and yours are ok.

    Guy won't be coming back, ever. Lowlifes like that look for easy opportunity... I bet he thought you were it until he heard the dogs (and maybe the guns) and that was that.

    Had something similar happen at 0030 last april when we had a 5-day blackout. Some guy came into my house (middle of a neighborhood, corner lot, truck was in the garage, no lights (duh) so it appeared nobody was home). Knocks of the door. Sammie (60lb rhodesian ridgeback) loses her shit... I was otherwise armed and prepared, but one look at her and he had no real desire to fool around anymore. ;)

    I should mention, X2. I called the police immediately after he left (non-emergency line) to let them know some guy was robbing houses in the area. (I didn't mention above he stole my garden hose outside, so aside from his general sketchiness I'm completely certain he was there to rob me.)

    It's all he could get. 60lbs of dog and .40 calibers of bullet between him and the inside of the house.

    It's also not a funny item to take if you want to go siphon gas. ;)

    I'm not bashing cops and i have alot of respect (for the good ones) but every time i have called 911 the quickest they responded was 40 minutes....so therefore;

    i'm not saying don't do what you gotta do to protect you and your family...i'm just saying don't waste time with a non emergency line

    if you're gonna call (and you should) call 911

    I know here in SC, attempting a felony is the same as committing the crime itself
